[non-emergency] Marek's Homeopathic Treatment - Video

O.C.Chick :

Robin'sBrood: Assuming it's not a leg or head injury, It could be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency

You should go back through this thread and look for DLHUnicorn's links on things that can cause the same symptoms...Lot's of great information!

One thing I learned is...eliminate all of the curable options, make sure she gets enough to eat, and hope she gets better. In my case, I tried everything and later found out that there was nothing I could have done. No consolation, but better than finding out it was something simple I had overlooked!

Good luck to you and keep us posted!

Thank you, I will look for that the post with the links.

I'm so sorry you and your hen had to go through what you went through. I'm sure most "normal"

people think I'm crazy for caring about my girl enough to have her in my bathroom... I'm mean she is "just a chicken"... so it's nice to be able to come here, among other abnormal people, for advice/information on how to help her!

I just had to post this picture...I'm here on my laptop reading BYC forums and the sister flew in to see what I was doing. Maybe she can help me with spell-check?

Robin...Always remember crazy is subjective, and compared to me you're perfectly sane! My chicken is sitting in my breakfast nook watching me type this response, and then she will go to sleep on a shelf in my office. She won't go back into the coop since her sister died. Not sure how this will work itself out in the long run, but I may be hauled away in a straight jacket!

O.C. Chick..It seems that the pathologist did a great job finding out what happened with your hen. I sent mine to Davis and they were pretty sure that it was Marek's. It is great that they do all of this for free. It is such a much needed service.

So now I just wait and see what happens to my other 7 chickens. It has been 2 weeks with no sign of illness. Could I be so lucky to have all my other chickens escape this? I usually don't have that kind of luck. I am going to get the vaccine and "shoot" them all and maybe that will help. I know they say that Marek's is everywhere, but there has never been other chickens on my property and all of mine but one I got at the same time from the same breeder. The other one I got at the same time from someone else. She was a 6 week old chick when I got her and she has never been sick so I don't think it came from her either. I guess I will never know. So now all chicks coming here get the vaccine.

I am sorry that your hen didn't make it, but you gave it a good try. I can't ever give up on an animal until I KNOW there is no help. I hope your others stay happy and healthy. And I LOVE your pictures. She is so cute.

Thanks again Barbara for letting us know about the State lab services. What an amazing resource....that we will hopefully never need to use again!

Good luck with your hens. I hope they all stay happy and healthy!

Is there anyway to regain access to this video. I think I'm dealing with the same thing. I have had several birds die, with the wry neck, bumble foot, laying on their side with a flat look, coma. I did a necropsy on one, had lesions on the heart, the intestines, and some nerves.

I have one that is having a hard time standing upright, falling over, not walking. One that is just not walking, but both of these are very mentally alert and their appetite is not being affected this time.

I started the Hypericum, well I didn't my daughter did today..(Shout out, I LOVE you Teenchik!) But I really would like to see that video.

Thank you,

Christal

Thanks so much i've marek chiken and ducks since many years and the youngsters always die and not knowing what to do as the vet only recommends a preventive treatment for the first month of their life and i don't want to kill them. i was so desperate when i saw your advise and i'm going to try it immediately. Good luck and recovery for your pet chiken.

I know this thread is "old". I just wanted to say thank you for everyone's contributions. This thread was so enlightening and encouraging despite the sad news. I love that there are others who care for their animals like I do. Thank you.

I am sorry to bump an old thread, but truth be told, this thread is the reason I joined the forum.
The information is amazing, I will be attempting to utilize it with a 3 week old Mille Fleur this week if I can get the supplies.
Lost 6 of 8 Speckled Sussex chicks within 2 days of them arriving from Meyer Hatchery. Symptoms matched these descriptions! Twisting head, flipping up side down, unable to stand. The other two are fantastic, as are the others that arrived that day. But yesterday one of the Mille Fleur chicks started to fall over to one side. Today he is flipping his wings an having spasms that tense his while body. He can't stand. Since they are bantams, they were the only ones I didn't have vaccinated against Marek's, the hatchery won't do it.
Still learning, thank you for all of your information and experiences .
