Yup, I've raised Seramas & OEGB, they are flighty. So the way I figure it the bigger/heavier the bird the better. They don't fly as high, never had Wyandottes, Orpingtons, Australorps, EEs nor RIRs fly over my nor to the top of my fence 5'. Thank goodness there are 7 dogs next door waiting, hence whatever I get now stays in their enclosure 8 x 12 x 7 and I have no more that 4 - 6 girls.

What about Cochin bantams Sylvie? I like them. So cute and fluffy! :loveWould standard Cochins be better?
I've never had standards, but my bantam cochins (I've only ever had six) couldn't fly very far or very fast. They always perched on the three-foot perch, while my Old English Bantams perched at eight feet or above. I can't imagine that standards are much better at flying, especially when they've gotten older. Neither variety lays well, and the bantams're almost constantly broody. My favorite girl (Sylvie) is currently running around with four peeps. They're very, very sweet birds. They're my pets.

Yeah the ones I have now are skittish of me.
They were raised by my friend's Red Jungle Fowl bantam broody Phoebe, instead of people.
My friend asked me if she got chicks for Phoebe, if I would take them after they feathered out. I said sure!
Phoebe had been broody for... idk, 2 months?
I had wanted a few chicks raised by Phoebe because she's so smart. The drawback is that they're not used to people.
Although my sex-link Feisty is becoming bolder about approaching me because she knows I may have treats.
Phoebe does fly too, quite well! I knew not to get any like her. I noticed when I lived next to my neighbor that Phoebe didn't range as far as the bigger birds. Neither did her Frizzle Cochin bantam Alice.
My next chicks will be raised by me.
It'll be interesting to see the difference. I want them to be used to me and okay with being handled.
Cochin bantams as pets sounds great! :clap

My austrolorp has never jumped my 4 foot fence. The only ones in my flock that do are my white Plymouth rocks. I'm sure my barred Plymouth rock would but she was built short and stocky so I doubt she would put in the effort to.
