My full grown pekin 2 year old male is not interested in mating why? The 7/8 months old muscovey male is a busy dude. We have a total of 10 ducks.

Is the muscovy the dominant one? Maybe your Pekin has been put in his place too many times. Could also be a repro system issue, rare but possible

Mallard derived duck breeding season is over right now so that might be why he has stopped or slowed down with mating. Muscovy drakes will mate whenever the hens are laying. Has he ever mated before, or has he just stopped now? Are you sure it is a drake? Mallard derived drakes are some of the most aggressive drakes around, they will mate and fight with other species during the breeding season, they will rape chicken hens and Muscovy hens like crazy if they do not have other mallard derived hens available. So if this guy is a mature two year old male and he has never mated then there is definitely something wrong with him. I have even seen them mount other drakes and muscovy drakes before...

How many kinds of ducks are there besides Mallard derived and Muscovie?

Tons. Tons of other ducks.

here is my article about the Muscovy duck and why it is a duck, there was a list that I included that listed all the genera of ducks and how many species are in each genus at the bottom of the article.

Muscovy ducks and mallard derived ducks are special because they are the only species of domesticated duck. However, they are not the only two species of ducks kept in captivity. Two examples of ducks kept in captivity besides the muscovy and mallard are wood ducks and egyptian geese.

Ive been so blind. Thaught all ducks but muscovie were mallard derived

Thank you thats a good artical

Give him time. I'm betting it's only a matter of time before Mr. Delight turns into Dr. Grape (The G is silent). This was the case with our male Pekin. We never know who we're getting from day to day.
