I have an almost 2yo RIR hen that hasn't laid normal eggs in ages. She just lays fart eggs occasionally. The last few days she's just been sitting in the box for an hour or two doing nothing. What is she doing? She's not a regular layer so I'm thinking she's not egg bound. Even is she is, her eggs are tiny and I'd think they'd just slip out.

How does she act when not in the box?
Is she active?
Standing around fluffed up?
Walking like a penguin?
Eating normally?
Staying with the flock or more on the outskirts?

Being a high production breed she is more likely to be internally laying or having other reproductive issues.

Hmm. This doesn’t sound normal to me (I am no vet but I have been owning chickens for a while now). It might just be that it is too cold for her to lay at the moment. Keep an eye on her and maybe give the vet a ring to get some advice . When did she last lay a normal sized egg?

It has probably been a year since she's laid a normal egg.
