Final licks of flame
embers are all that remain
Warm coals in morning

teasing images
shadow dancing in the tent
nature’s movie screen

Meteor crosses
sonic boom was it’s climax
postcoital flash

deeper subjects await us;
when hindsight’s rushing

Unfiltered reply
thunder rattles my windows;
storms forecast all day

It's hard to lose someone dear
this close to Christmas.

My mom squeezed my fingers twice
Christmas, '85.

The twenty-seventh
Was her birthday, aged 60.
She lived one more day.

Wish I had been there
To hold her hand and tell her,
"I love you. Thank you."
