Non-stop, early morning crowing

Lincoln is our year-old EE roo. He's a wonderful gentleman, and takes great care of his ladies. He even has a girlfriend. However, every morning he begins crowing around 3:30. Every once in a while it will be as early as 12:30. DH and I are at our wits end. We are early to rise, but even that's too early for us! We don't have a noise ordinance, but I don't want to be a bad neighbor either. We let him out of the coop at 5 am, and try to keep him awake as late as possible (like trying to get a baby to sleep through the night). We're going to try to move our coop farther from our house (and our neighbor's) and insulate it, but just in case, does anyone have any tricks for keeping a noisy roo quiet? Has anyone tried those dog collars that keep them from barking? Or peanut butter on the roof of their mouths

? Maybe squirting him with water every time he crows? I'm open to just about anything!

I really don't think there is any way, not that I've heard of anyway, to stop a rooster from crowing, and I wouldn't try the dog collar thing. We have two roosters, both of them start around 5-5:30, but we live out in the middle of a cornfield and we can't hear them from our bedroom.

Have you thought of re-homing him if you really can't stand it?

I have a rooster who crows all night long, 11 p.m. 1 a.m. 4 a.m. and really any time, day or night. I looked at our options: rehoming, surgery to prevent any crowing (NO), dog collar (NO) and really there's nothing you can do. Since it only recently lessened, we figured it was either another rooster starting him (they can hear a LOT better than we can) or an intruding critter coming by and waking him up. Could also be clouds in the sky covering then uncovering it and the moon and stars, neighbors lights ... we just can't know.

Luckily my other roosters don't crow that early.

I did read one way....not something you want to do though really....roosters can't crow if they can't extend their necks, so if you box them up, tightly, you won't get the crow...its pretty cruel sounding actually...I would suggest re-homing him...

Its a ROOSTER thats what they do. Talk to your neighbor's they might like it my neighbor loves hearing my rooster crow. If they dont then you may have to consider other options.
