NoNAIS.org

I don't agree with making it mandatory. But my mother said if I join NoNAIS.org or any anti NAIS group those will be the first people the gov't cracks down on

That isn't the point. The government doesn't want it, the poultry industry does. Think of it. If more and more of us raise our own birds, it cuts into their profit margins. People are concerned enough about their food and how it's raised, more are becoming educated, and it threatens the industry. They're trying to protect themselves. They need to toe a bottom line first, before they change their production methods to those that are more environmentally friendly, healthy, etc. It's cheaper to use drugs, chemicals, cram them into smaller and smaller spaces, raise them faster, get product to market faster, it costs them too much to make sure it's a good product.....that's what's driving this whole thing. Shareholders and the bottom line, instead of producing a good product that people want to buy.

The government is swayed by lobbyists more than by the people anymore. Poultry industry lobbyists (and the other major food producers, like cattle, corn, etc) have heavy influences on how these rules are written. That's what is driving so many of us who actually read this stuff crazy. Special interests take precedence over common sense and good food production practices.

I buy my eggs from a local farm, and have done so ever since I found out how supermarket eggs are produced. It sickens me the way we treat our animals. Someone posted this link yesterday, and I read it through. I was a little leary of the way it started out, again I thought, it's a pro-vegetarian rant, but I was so wrong. This is the philosophy that many of us are zoning in on with regards to our food, and specifically our meat. The last paragraph sums it up nicely, at least for me:

On the Blood Moon, may we say a heartfelt prayer for all the animals who are being raised in inhumane conditions. May we give great thanks for the farmers and ranchers who treat their animals with respect and honor and who care deeply for their welfare. May we take the time to seek out sources of animal foods that are raised with respect for the environment, for our health, and for the well being of the animals themselves. May there come a day when factory farms have been replaced with small scale, integrated, holistic family farms where all living things are recognized for being the gifts that they surely are. May there be a day when Americans have acquired the adult knowledge that all life is dependent upon all other life in an endless circle of giving and receiving, birth and death, growth and decay, rebirth, and regeneration. May we find ourselves humble as we contemplate the miracle of life, and of the Life that transcends death. That would make our ancestors proud.

So what can be done about it? I mean that with the absolute seriousness. What are the options that we have in stopping this?

I really hate this topic. I really really do. Nothing baffles me more than people who view everything as conspiracy as the most likely reason for events to happen. I pity them actually.

I can say with 1000% certainty, the NAIS is not as bad as these websites proclaim. I can say with 1000% certainty, the NAIS has potential for abuse.

In the UK, all animals are tracked, including movements from farm to farm. Has everyone become government slaves? No. Smallholding is as big as ever and it's no barrier to people owning livestock. There simply are rules if you want to sell or transport animals off your premises.

I was in the UK during the foot & mouth cull in 2001. If you had witnessed the stench of millions of burning animal corpses, your opinion may change on the matter. A lack of animal tracking and ID'ing system ensures that during a disease outbreak mass culls will be required (they draw a circle on a map and 'kill it all').

I'm not completely against it. Yet. And the only reason for that is b/c I just learned about it, and I don't know much about it. But I do know that the govt is not all that great at effenciency and doing things that make sense. Either side So my last question still stands. Education on this issue from many aspects would be greatly appreciated from anyone who is willing to do so.

Would we do this to people? Of course not. But we aren't any better than the rest of the animals that fill this earth, so what right do we have to do it to them?

I am 62 years old. I've had horses--lived with them, cared for them, sacrificed for them--since I was 18 years old. The horses in my barn right now I delivered. I bred their parents and their grandparents and their great-grandparents. They are as much a part of the fabric of my life as any human being. Hell, they ARE my life. Yet under certain provisions of NAIS, people could come onto my farm and kill every one of them--sick or not--and legally I could not stop them.

That is not acceptable to me.

The Supreme Court finally says it is my constitutional right to own weapons. Has it reached the point where I have to go buy a gun to protect my family from my own government?

Stop NAIS.

I agree. Our horses cost thousands of dollars and if they just kill them all we just loose our valuable loved ones. Not only would I want to kill myself because my beloved horses were murdered I would be out thousands of dollars I invested in them. They are show quality Paints some that I have had since conception of them.

What I really hate is people who label other people as "conspiracy theorists." Labeling is childish. Can we have an adult conversation please?

It IS true that if you control the food supply then you control the population. I don't think that is something to laugh at, unless of course you are one of the people wielding control.

Here's a simple solution: How about we all stop buying meat? Then we don't have to have these sorts of regulations to begin with.
