In the Brooder
Any ideas on chick treats that won’t spoil? I’d like to keep some in a jar by their brooder. They are about 6 weeks old but not very interested mealworms (too hard??) thanks!

Sue, I’ve been wondering about that! They are feathered except the area under their wings. It’s currently 60 in GA this morning going up to 70. Can I move them out? They are getting so bored! At 6 weeks, chicks don't need to be in a brooder. If they have a pen with grass available, they will probably enjoy nibbling grass and scratching in the dirt for bugs. But as for treats, you don't want to dilute the nutrition which is vital for growth. Keep treats to a minimum.
Ok maybe I’ll just keep a cup of their feed nearby for “special” hand fed attentionChick starter feed.
They need nothing else. It has all the nutrients over a century of research has shown they need at the correct ratios.
Treats can screw up that balanced nutrition.
YES! Move them out! I have moved mine out each year at 4-5 weeks with lows in the 40's, no heat source. They will love being out, it's a joy to watch.Sue, I’ve been wondering about that! Yes they’ve been ignoring the brinsea and so we moved it out a week ago. We moved them to the coop yesterday and they seem to love it. We just closed them up in the roost are overnight and this morning everyone looks great/happyAre they off heat (they should be, but better to ask than to assume)? Definitely move them out if you've weaned them off heat already.
