Fire because the nook is heavy and the fire is not. Price also. $199 compared to $249. Better library too!

Amazon is introducing a lending library really soon. I think the 25th.

We have 4 Kindles in the family--DD, two grandkids and myself (I have the DX, DD has the Touch and the others have the small, $79 jobs. We all love them for books. I have purchased the Fire for DW for Christmas primarily because it will allow color so she can get her magazines as well as books. Hopefully too we'll be able to swap back and forth. The biggest plus for the Kindle is that there are apps that allow you to access your books on your computer, smart phone or tablet. Also Amazon has a lot of very inexpensive--some free--books that B & N do not offer and, if they ever get their lending and swapping operations up, that will be an advantage over the Nook as well.

(Full disclosure: I also have an ipad2 that I use for magazines and Kindle books, the latter are cheaper and more extensive than those sold at the istore.)
