sorry. its not the dogs fault or your husbands, its just the dogs instincts. my dog has been pretty good around my chickens fortunately. they only time he snapped was just a couple hours ago. he was eating a steak bone from dinner and one of the chickens came in to invstigate and he jimped and barked at the chicken. he didnt bite or anything, but it was scared! lol

Sorry for your loss. It is a risk to let the chickens out. I have bantams I let out during the day most days. I know I could come home and find them gone. My dogs had a hard time leaving the chicks alone before they clucked instead of peeped. They just want to play with the chickens and don't realize playing is harmful to the chickens. In my case, it happened in a flash.

I wouldn't be too hard on your hubby. Stuff happens. It is sad but it happens. There are neighbors dogs, cats, hawks, foxes. raccoons.....All sorts of hungry beasties to worry about.

I know that must have been awful for you. We all know that our pets are probably going to be a tragedy in our lifetimes; I hat that this was untimely for you. Even if you feel that your flock is lacking a breed or two, just enjoy them for what they are. You can always add later and look forward to the other babies at another time. And don't be too hard on your puppy or husband; sometimes things just happen....

I have not lost any ladies yet but I worry about it all the time. Our Dog hangs with them but she is a small french bulldog. Our Austraulorp put her in her place at an early age.... Good luck with your new flock!!
