Normal day 1 egg..?

I let them settle and candled again (even though ive been told 100 times not to, I want to know which eggs are gonna be iffy.) 46 out of 89 have detached air cells... I don’t have a turner in my incubator so I placed them all fat side up in egg cartons, in hopes that the air cells will reattach.
OK, to candle on getting the eggs, then checking again after the resting period as you put them in the incubator....but more than that, best not to.

Egg cartons can be fine, best to cut away as much of the carton as possible for air flow.

I’ve read it’s not good to incubate eggs in egg cartons. But hopefully someone with more experience and knowledge can chime in.
It’s just temporary until I can get a turner, hopefully the holes I cut in the bottom will increase air flow

With shipped eggs and bad air cells it's generally better to incubate and hatch thrm upright. 😉

I thought for upright it was with an egg turner but not on an egg carton. So egg cartons are good to use in an incubator for shipped eggs? Oh so even to hatch them upright? Wow

You can hatch them upright. One of my friends did that (on accident, miscalculated days, lol) and all of the viable ones hatched, so I guess it works. I have incubated and hatched shipped eggs laying down naturally though and had fine hatch rates too.

Incubating and hatching in egg cartons are two different things.
Incubating is fine, and essential with wonky air cells, given good airflow.

Hatching can create problems with the chicks getting out,
best to lay them down at lock-down if at all possible.

I wouldn't suggest using your average egg carton in your incubator. The paper/cardboard like ones would hold in moisture as well as bacteria. Non-porous plastic would be better.
