My month-old duckling's wings look a bit strange. They have little yellow points that are sticking straight up, but not out to the side. I've never raised a duck before so I'm not sure if this is normal or if it's the start of angel wing. Can someone take a look at these photos and let me know? Thanks!

Thanks, Amiga! I've been doing some research on BYC, and I'll be sure to watch some YouTube videos before I go about wrapping it. Poor ducky.

Yes, I agree that you shoudl wrap that. You should not be able to see those flight feathers sitting like that - they should be fully concealed behind the duckling's 'elbow'. Try wrapping for a few days and see how that goes.

Gorgeous duckling!!!

Thank you for the advice! I picked up some vet wrap today, but I think I'll put off wrapping for a day or two because she's acting very lethargic suddenly. I want to keep an eye on her under normal conditions (not all wrapped up!) to see if she gets better in the next day or so. Hopefully she'll be okay! I'm a nervous mama.

What effects does angel wing eventually have on a duck?

Supposedly they can't fly, but one of my ducks has it and she can fly, though she has to work a little harder for it.

My ducks angel wing didn't show up until about 2 months. To me it just looks like funny feathers, but I am by no means an expert.

Apart form affecting flight (which is is meant to do, as FowlFarm says), it's really just cosmetic. It doesn't hurt the bird or affect their health in any other way.

Diamond, how is your little ducky doing today?
