Normal intestinal shedding or Coccidiosis?

I just checked BYC and saw your comment. I ended up fixing the problem for my hen with antibiotics. She's been laying eggs now for quite awhile. I've been watching her to see if her symptoms come back and she seems to be doing fine.
I've noticed that she seems to get dirt in her nostrils a lot...and she will snort it out...it's a black discharge (like a crust) at her nostrils...and it's the same color as the local dirt. I have been seeing some clear fluid with it however, but her color remains very good and she's laying eggs every day...I think the slightly moist nostrils are due to getting dirt into her sinuses?
Does your bird have any discharge from her nostrils?
No discharge …. Have not seen any red stuff in her poop for a while . I did start Corid in water yesterday just in case . They said to do it for 5-7 days .

Sorry for the late replies...I've had so much going on that I could not even check in...

Anyway, yes - I used Corid also (before using antibiotics) because it did look a lot like cocsidiosis (or however it's spelled). It had no effect in my bird's case because it turned out to be a bacteria...(or a virus) and the antibiotics prevented secondary infection...I think it was a bacteria though because of her rapid response to the antibiotics.

After treating your bird with Corid, just keep an eye on her - hopefully you nipped it in the bud!

How do give the chicken antibiotics ? Where do you get it?

If you can't take her to a vet, then try getting a widespread antibiotic - usually a powder that you add to their drinking water - Isolate her so only she can drink from the treated water - and don't give her any other source of water.
Depending on where you live, it can be difficult to find this kind of treatment - without going to a vet...You could however, talk to a vet and convince them to just give you the damn antibiotics...pay them to check your chicken first...and they will say, "Yep, that's a chicken alright." And then get the medication...
