I was just wondering what is the normal number of clutches a brooder hen will hatch in one year? Does anyone know? I have a brooder hen, not sure what breed, that has been hatching out 3 clutches each summer. Is this normal and does anyone know what breed of chicken she is? She has large spurs, as you can see. She was just one I rescued when my neighbors abandoned their house leaving all their animals behind. I would appreciate any info you may have. Thank you!!

Guess it will vary with age, breed and climate. I have an oldish girl that goes broody every month or so. I have had 4 hatches in 1 year from her. The climate is temperate where i live - no winters, no boiling summers, so i guess that may influence things - dunno?

That hen looks almost exactly like my Old English Game hen. And yes, mine have spurs too! lol They are wonderful broodies and very protective moms. As for her going broody frequently, that is perfectly normal.
