I have a pair of chicken (male + female), and usually when I go into the chicken coop to refill their food & water my rooster will seem to be a bit aggressive, but never attacking me. But then it happened, I got kicked one time while not looking, it was only a kick until I went down to hold him and he seemed to calm down. Is it normal for a rooster to be somewhat aggressive when there's a hen with him that in his mind he's trying to protect and claim as his? I say that because a lot of times when I go in their to give them food or water, the rooster will chase the hen and mate her in my presence.
