Norman the Rooster

Thanks for the offer, everybody! I don't think my boss has an issue sharing space... persay... once we get the dang backyard cleaned out. We have a good 15x30 stretch of space that's technically ours, where we intend to place breeding pens, but it's currently filled with old vehicles/junk from the previous renters of the lot. I've been trying for months to get my boss to just get everything moved out of there, but some of those vehicles and machines are big (10+ foot tall!) hunks of rust so it's a several person job, and we're so busy it's hard to get a day set up to actually remove it.

@QueenMisha

any pics of Norman, Norma, or the eggs? how many eggs do you have?

I'll take some more good pics on Tuesday when I work again. Here are a couple mildly crappy selfies I took last week:

I have three eggs since I started collecting this past Tuesday. I'm hopeful they're fertile, but not entirely sure. Norman may be a little TOO much of a gentleman, because whenever he grabs Norma to mate, if she even acts mildly annoyed, he completely backs off. Kinda just "oh, OK, not now then." It's adorable how much he cares for her, actually. In any case, I'll be setting them sometime this week along with some of my bosses' Serama eggs.

Well I hope you all can find the time to clear out that space. It sounds like a pretty big job.

Tell Norman he has to be assertive. His fan club is waiting for those babies. Great pics of them. He is such an unusual looking roo. Give Norman my love.

What??? My roosters just try harder if the hens fight.

Gosh, how adorable, and that is very funny that Norman is so gentlemanly.

It definitely is. We hope to get it done before spring, but this sudden onset of nasty weather (first storm of the year was a real doozy...) is making that look difficult...

I sure hope so. I'm noticing a bit of wear occurring on Norma's cushion feathers so I'm thinking she is being mated at least a bit.

I know! So do all my boys at home. Even the ones who are generally quite good tempered.

Thanks guys! They really are just like two peas in a pod... they look alike, act alike, and they are basically inseparable at this point.

Norman is officially down to five sickle feathers and zero main tail feathers. Definitely a hard molt! The rest of his body is covered in pin feathers, so I've had to limit the snuggling. :( He's still very active and cheery despite his lack of feathers!

A good shot showing his bad eye vs. good. It doesn't seem to hurt him or affect his behavior much, though he cannot see out of it, so he does occasionally bump into things on that side. It occurred prior to my ownership, but I'm inclined to think it's an injury rather than a birth defect. I imagine it occurred when he was very young.
