steelshot are the rir eggs are they heritage can you show pics of your birds and how much for your eggs.
Thanks Shane

PS SCBATZ33 great looking roo and hens keep the pics coming

Our rooster looks good, but he's not the most prolific bird ever.

Does anyone recognize the breed possibility of the hen in the leaves? She is not a good layer and when she does lay an egg she lets the WHOLE world know.

Shane, I was told my RIR's were heritage when I purchased them from a lady in GA . The eggs are $10/dozen plus shipping. Here are a couple pictures of my RIR's.

Hi Carol - you must be really close to me! I live between 4-85 and the airport..... I've found that my hens do pretty well - I have 1 leghorn, 1 polish mix, 2 RIR's and 1 Comet ( as well as a couple of smaller ones - a showgirl and a faverolle mix and too many roosters - we're trying to thin them down - one is in my crockpot now!!! ) Anyway - In this cold weather, I've been averaging 3-4 per day - that's without giving them additional light...they do better with I think 14 hours of light. Some Days I get 5, sometimes less, but usually at least 3 or 4. Summertime is much better of course.

We are going to be hatching some for a school project in the next couple of months if you're interested in getting some chicks. Also, Mt. Holly Farm Supply is a great place to get supplies & chicks - they have different breeds each week & they order pullets, so you know you're getting girls...

I'm also working toward 1 or 2 breeds - hopefully Marans or Welsummers to add to the Ameracauna roosters ( I'm looking for an Ameracauna Hen to go with them - we're working toward 1 roo...not 3 ) so that when I go to hatch eggs for the kids, we're getting purebreeds instead of crosses. I am learning as I go along!

This is a great thread. We are over on the Eastern Side of NC, outside of Greenville. We have several breeds that are laying eggs right now and next month we will start having some chicks on a limited number. Just finished the website last month so you can look there for pictures of our stock.
I will post back next month when we start hatching chicks and turkeys.
Thanks,
Sharon
