Forest City checking in! That's in Rutherford County..down west.
I am a native..family is from Swain and has been several hundred years. I have logged some time living in Madison County too. Got too expensive and too cold in the mountains, so we sold about 100 chickens and moved down the hill. I am back up to about 57 or so and the yard and barn are just so empty. Hopefully I can be up and running again soon with about 200 birds.
I raise mainly Langshans pure and am developing a "farm breed" for meat and eggs. I am going to be interbreeding some Speckled Sussex and New Hampshire Reds in with the Langshans looking for a quicker maturation rate without losing the fantastic taste of the Langshan.
I will be raising some "Granny's Whites" for point of lay sale eventually too. Secret mix though...
My place is called The Hennery..I need to get a website up and going.... but it is almost planting season.... oh well..some day. I have been snooping 'round here for ages and am glad to be "official" now!

Hey, Chickenista, I'm in Green Mountain, in Yancey County, right next to Madison where you used to be. Anyone out there in Western NC? I love the mountains, been here 10 years, now. I would love to get 3 or so more Barred Rocks so i could share my eggs. Little Bit, my silkie bantie mom went broody today, so i gave her back her egg that i gathered yesterday.
