Don't wait and worm when you think you need to, you should just as a standard worm twice a year (spring/fall - winter/summer). Allot or people try and correlate worming & molting season as egg production is down during that period anyway. Worming is more of a preventative than waiting till you are in a critical situation, that way your flock stays protected.

I just have one more question, if you don't mind. Is 6 months to young to start? Am I better off waiting until Spring and follow the Spring-Fall schedule? I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and treat them now.

When I wormed this fall....EVERYONE outside got wormed. Youngest was 2 months old. I just gave them a drop.

6 months if definitely not too young to worm. I would do them now and then again in late fall to put you on your schedule.

So how many of ya'll are going into the winter with WAY too many birds? We are just right with the number of chickens (16), we did say were gonna cull down some of them, I just let our teenage guineas out with our seniors and so far they are smarter than I thought so no losses yet total (11), and I didn't have hardly any luck selling our muscovys so we are up to about 22 right now (or more I really haven't counted them, LOL)!!!

Argh.... At least the guineas and the ducks are free ranging, but the winter feed bill will be rough

I worked on getting my chicken numbers down and have 12 hens and 2 roos now, so feeling pretty good about that and getting 4-6 eggs still a day. my ducks[Muscovies also] are at 10 with 1 goose so it will still be rough with feed prices going up and not much here to eat foraging. But Thats where we are and will just have to hang in there till spring.
What color muscovies do you have?

I'm not that great at describing their colors, LOL! Even after looking at the pictures with the colors described. I have blacks, browns, and whites, but my whites usually have some color on them. I need to get some new pictures.

Feed cost will eat us out of house and home this winter. Between the 7 dogs, 4 cats, 7 goats (plus 2 are due to kid in Dec/Jan), 2 young steer calves), rabbits and the birds, LOL!!!

Counting the 4 rescues that came in yesterday I am at 119 chickens. That is 19 more then I plan for every year, but I haven't been able to get below that 100 mark in the last 3 years. 15 of those are Roos and 5 of those boys need to go sooner or later. 2 of the big cochin Boys I will sell come Spring shows. I already have one potentially sold then. I could sell them now, but I really want to see what they grow in to.

Big Amos, calico mutt bantam, really needs to go now. I am setting his cut off date here soon. Cut off dates around here are literal.
https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=607180 was the auction I had him on. He is going on CL tonight. I would like to get $5 for him but a promise of a good home is all I really need for him.
