What are the symptoms ? What was the poo like for your rooster before he died?

DE is not very effective for anything.
Not sure about the tylan sorry.

Droopy head, lathargic, empty crop, and the Rooster had yellow runny poo and could pick his head up and couldn't stand. My pullet can still walk and pick her head up.

I would stick with the nutri drench and try some scratch or people food, try to get her eating something.

Remember: safe guard for 3 days then repeat in 10-14 days and throw out the eggs.

Good morning everyone. DD was up early today so I have been cuddling with my sickie-pooh all morning. While I hate her being sick...I

cherish these cuddle moments!!

Susan update: nothing new to report. Tail still down, comb still light pink but aside from that...she's active and following the flock.

Maybe she is starting a long molting process and just hasn't actually started to molt yet??

Belle & Olivia update: the new girls are making themselves quite at home....however, neither of them have left the coop since the first day they followed everyone out. I suspect everything is still new for them, and they are still getting their feel of things. I still enjoy watching Jeremy "dance" for his new girls. His bright pink legs just flare up and he struts around them... Olivia (the white one...like the ballerina mouse who's white & named Olivia...I think?!? LOL I have to remember it somehow!!) flattens herself out every time he dances, while Belle tries to run away from him.

I think she is declaring, "COOTIES"!! No one ever told me just how vocal they are...

they talk ALL the time. I absolutely LOVE it!! Hmm...do you think DH would mind if I brought 2 chickens to live inside??

I know Wesley the cat wouldn't have a problem with it...he'd just hide from them anyhow!!
Have a great day everyone!!

How do you know when you need to worm? My girls are about 6 months old and not laying yet. Haven't seen any worms in their poop - been checking - and they're all active and feisty like the divas they are. Should I wait until I see symptoms before I think about treatment them?

Welcome, stephanimal. I'm a newbie too!

Don't wait and worm when you think you need to, you should just as a standard worm twice a year (spring/fall - winter/summer). Allot or people try and correlate worming & molting season as egg production is down during that period anyway. Worming is more of a preventative than waiting till you are in a critical situation, that way your flock stays protected.

I just have one more question, if you don't mind. Is 6 months to young to start? Am I better off waiting until Spring and follow the Spring-Fall schedule? I'm trying to decide if I should go ahead and treat them now.
