Good Saturday Morning everyone!!

Today is suppose to be a grand day to be outside working in the garden before the "flood" of rain hits us tomorrow!! Hoping to get the last bit of land tilled and sow some seeds!! DH is hoping to rebuild the coop doors (they were blown off in the high winds we had a few weekends past) and get a fence up around the garden!! When it is time for me to entertain the wee one, I will be working on trying to figure out how to make my chicken saddles tighter as they did NOT stay on for more than 5 minutes the last time.

I also think I need to put them upside down (

booo....no one will be able to read the writing, unless they can read mirror images) so they cannot peck at the snaps and get them open!! I guess the funniest part will be making DH go out to the coop with me tonight (when they are roosting) and help put them on the girls

. I saw last night that Miss Tiggy desperately needs one, as her whole back is almost exposed. If I can get it sewn this morning, I might force him to help me catch her and do it this morning...we'll see. He does NOT like catching chickens and I am SLOW....

I hope those of you who are waiting on eggs to arrive/hatch/pip/etc...have much success!! Have a great day everyone!!

Morning.............

NO nO NO No NO rain tomorrow. Nothing like the stink of wet chicken.

G&A. Happy Hatching !!!

My eggs are STILL hatching.... The counter eggs are almost done. The #6 egg (as in 1/6) is zipping now. So YES 22 days on the counter in an egg carton, covered in kitchen dust & crock pot overflow and still hatched.

I LOVE my silly experiments.

Hi NH201. I am new to chickens and chicks and have 26 1 week ODs right now. They are very fun by the way. Anyway, that sounds kind of startling when you say your hens back is almost totally exposed.
ep.gif
Is that from a rooster trying to ride her all the time? If so, that seems so crazy. Is that normal or is your roo a little too aggressive? I don't think I'm ready for my poor hens to be all torn up like that.

Would having more hens help? What a little stud you have huh? lol.

The exposed backs on hens usually comes from an over 'rambunctious' rooster, too many roosters, or not a good ration boy/girls. Also it could just be 1 is the favorite woman over the others. My brahma boy has 8 girls and of those 8 only 1 of mine has a 'wear' patch on her back and a plug missing at the nape of her neck where the roo's grab. It happens, if I could find some more dark brahma females I'd just get him a couple more girls, but even then he'd still probably wear her out. It just depends.

Newhomesteader I may need you to make me a saddle for my one girl! ;) I have a saddle I won on ChickenWhisperer but it fits my slightly smaller girls but not my big busty brahmas.

Kim...this is normal, the roosters always have a favorite hen or two. You can make or buy a chicken saddle for them. I have a bunch , my hens look fashionable !
