what a great experience... they are great people and have an awesome set up. They are hatching close to 400 eggs every two weeks. All there birds are beautiful and have a huge area to run and play!

Wishing my chickens would start laying! Put plastic eggs in the nest boxes last week and all I've been doing is digging them out of the shavings or fetching one from the other side of their pen. I'd like to get some fresh eggs, plus see what colors we get out our EEs.

good morning everyone

yesterday was beautiful. i got the girls run expanded, finished the ducks pen, and built a 2ftx5ft a-frame for a friend. i also got to stand out in my yard with a pellet gun and chase and scream and shoot and my neighbors pack of stupid hounds, who think they have found the best new toys, MY CHICKENS.

i managed to grab two of the dogs and drag them back to my neighbors. i told him that his dogs were destroying my property, attacking my dogs and trying to kill my hens! he calmly leaned back against his door and said "if they hurt your dogs that just means your dog ain't strong and you need a new one. if they dug up your garden, to bad dogs dig. and if they kill your chickens so what, chickens are stupid and can be thrown out with the trashed and replaced!!!!!"

WHAT?????????? ooooooo i hate people like that. good thing i got a very nice video of his dogs tearing apart my garden bed and killing my rooster and trying to dig under my fence. i mean if it was just one dog i wouldn't be to upset but its 12+ dogs all hounds, all unsocialized, all mean.

sorry for ranting. i hope everyone has a great day. its raining here so i'll be inside taking care of house chores

Oh yeah... while outside watching my baby goats play... I notice Rainy has a little extra something something..... Call the hubby over to recalculate his assumption of us having 2 female kids.... so needless to say... "Rainy" is now "Thunder". Yes! A little billy. Anyone interested in a baby billy goat?
Just shameful! Hubby is not allowed to sex goats anymore.

Goat sexing is easy! My daddy just reaches underneath them and feels for "danglies". Danglies=boy, no danglies=girl! Of course there is also checking the holes under the tail too. 1 hole=boy, 2 holes=girl. Your DH must have been distracted when he was figuring out the genders. My daddy had a seller tell him a wether was a doe one time! It was a feminine looking (as in colors) wether!

He figured it out though and got the wether replaced with a doe.

The reply to him should be "Well if your dogs get shot because they are killing livestock and destroying property then obviously they weren't smart enough to stay off my property after I warned you!" I think I'd have something stronger than a BB gun for those dogs. Perhaps you should call animal control on the dogs. Or you could always take the owner to small claims court to get the cost of your rooster back. You have the proof that the dogs were destroying your garden and killed your rooster, that would be good to get a court case going.

I do love dogs and all but I'd be shooting the dogs with buckshot.

It's very exciting!!!! I just recently got all my babies out of the house and the garage and they are now in grow out pens inside the hen pen.

The 6 acres isn't in linden, it's between fayetteville and raeford.
I will be at the fayetteville flock swap tomorrow but will not be bringing anything to sell unless anyone wants my last white silkie roo, or some of my birthday hatch light brahma/rir crosses.

I know what you mean I have a neighbor who at one time had 12+ deer dogs and these he all bought 2nd hand, he barely takes care of them, and I have told him repeatedly if any of these he has this year come in my yard - they are dead dogs end of story. He got pissy and I told him - your dad and your brother have dogs - between them they have more - but their dogs are socialized, good natured, not hungry, and all but 1 coon hound have never gave me an issue or even came in the yard for nothing more than because i called them to catch them. - Tony's dogs are in poor shape, hungry, mean, etc.

I tell you - shoot them with a real gun not a pellet gun - thats actually considered animal creulty - just shoot to kill. You tell the neighbor - "Your dogs belong on YOUR property, on MY property they are predators and will be deal with as such...SHOT ON FIRST SIGHT" - if you live in the city limits that may be issue, but if you live out of the city - animal control will most likely back you up as well as the law. Most counties have a 'dog at large' and 'livestock harassment' laws...the state I think still has a livestock harassment law and you can use that in your defense. Or invest in some a couple traps and start trapping his dogs and taking them to the pound. File a destruction of private property suite against the neighbor - his dogs, his responsibility, he can be fined and charged and have to repay damages his dogs have done. Don't wait DO IT or you will regret it. anytime those dogs are on your property EVERY time, call animal control of the deputy sheriffs and complain. If you have to go in person and file a report - DO IT. Trust me from experience if you don't you will get screwed. Complain and tell them you are concerned for your well being, your family's, your animals, and any child that those dogs may come across. KEEP IT UP AND DON'T TAKE NO CRAP OFF THE RAT B NEIGHBOR

That's actually not far from where I grew up! I went to Lewis Chapel before it was a middle school right down the street from you. I married Military and thought we would get stationed some place else but we are here for the long run. I'm glad the swap is postponed, I really wanted to make it out but with two small kids the weather has to be on my side!
