Can't remember if I posted in this thread or not, if I have it's been a long while.... stopping in to say 'hello' again!

Any of idea where I might find two young laying Lakenvelder hens to go with my trio.

I have a trio myself. Don't know of any, been looking for the goldens myself. You got a good looking trio there. Good luck

Good Morning everyone!

Been enjoying and making the most out of the past few amazing days.

Got eggs in yesterday and expecting more today, quite excited about more hatching.

Side note - my eggs that came yesterday had been opened AND tampered with along their route, some of the packaging materials had been removed from the box and one thing of eggs were toppled over on their side resulting in them being up against the side of the box with 2 broken eggs.

I am so mad, they didn't even try to retape the box and left it looking obviously opened, the PO are supposed to put a note on the box saying they've opened your package for whatever reason, and are not supposed to in any way result in damaging the contents of said package, so I am peeved. Calling around and seeing what I can do, but since they weren't insured I don't know if there is much to be done. Got to talk to my post master today, that is if shes back from her sick leave.

Supposedly talking to someone else who works in PO (via facebook group) the PO and Dept. of Ag are starting to crack down on boxes marked hatching eggs because of biosecurity reasons, but this was the first I had heard of any such thing.

ML & Lav - I have 18 going in LD this morning and may have some of them available but would really like to get rid of them before Chickenstock if any are available, have enough on the feedbill at the moment.

So are you saying you have some available now or sometime before CS? and of course I can only have pullets since my 2 roos would not let another roo on the land here. but I would love to have 2or 3 ? what do you say? I am not sure of driving 2or more hrs though to pick them up.

Just FYI - The PO DOES NOT have to tell you if they open your package! How do I know..... I mailed some books once media mail, we had a po box at that office so I went to check the box after mailing the box of books. As I walk past the counter area I see her opening my box!! I was livid and ran in to ask her what she was doing, she state she felt there was more than media in the box and they have the right to open ANYTHING and inspect if the feel something is not right. Basically she was calling me a liar about what I mailed, boy did I prove her wrong as it was nothing but books.

I also found out the only thing they are not allowed to open is "First Class Mail". They do not have to tell you that they open your packages either.

I was told by a post master they are supposed to make a notation or sticker on the box even if its just a symbol that marks that the box has already been examined. But I know when you ship over seas they put an actual sticker on the box saying its been inspected. This happens all the time for care packages, etc sent to soldiers overseas. I was told by a post master the same goes for any package that is opened, if only to let those down the line know its been opened previously and so they don't have to refund cost of damages even on insured packages that have been opened. Which is totally stupid

whats the point of insuring a package if they damage it and you can't recoop the cost of what they damaged?

Hi Im Marc, Im in Mooresville, NC (about 20 miles north of Charlotte). Im new to keeping chickens and have 16 Wyandotte chicks in the Brooder. They are 10 days old. Im only looking to keep 6-8 as i live in a neighborhood (i ordered 15 because the lower shipping cost for larger orders made 15 about the same price as 6) so if you are local and interested, ill have 8-10 available. I have no clue how to determine the sex (im really green at this) but ordered all females.

lol i know you didnt forget me... so i pretty sure of the 4 older chicks, only the one is a roo...there is no comb expression from the other 3...and then the little ones are just now starting to feather out I will have to get photos later on
These are Bantams, I haven't forgotten you in regards to one of the LF splits I am growing out, I think I only ended up with four or five total.

we are taking the kids to be disbudded this morning, and I am not looking forward to causing these little guys any pain at all :(
