North Carolina

Okay...well DH convinced me it was only sprinkling so we could go ahead and get the coop cleaned while DD was sleeping. Little did we know that half way through scooping poop...it would pour!! LOL Luckily I was saved by DD waking up from her nap!!

So out of all that we had planned to do today...we managed to get the coop done and the trellises built and installed. DH is currently back working on my sewing room while I ponder over what to do for lunch and supper. Hehe. Pregnancy cravings are NOT helping!! LOL

Good luck getting things done today all....I know I have been in extra slow gear!!

I'm glad I'm not the only one preferring to work in the rain to doing housework!

I have gotten some indoor stuff done, and will get more done, but I've also changed out the feeders in the meat bird pen and week-old pen. And I need to make a feed run today. I thought I could go tomorrow, but that's not happening. The meat birds will go through what's left of the feed before the day is out.

I was admiring my lav orp chicks, and of the 16 I got I can tell three are for sure roos, while a fourth is a good possibility. A couple others may be late bloomers. Overall I think I may have come out a chick or two on the pullet side, although it's really still a bit too early to tell.

That would be a lucky thing for me. The week-olds are growing fast, too. I'm a week into this incubator run, and I'm wanting to check my turkey eggs, but I really need to give them a couple more days. I'm saving up more turkey eggs for the next go-round, which will start mid-week this week. If those toms have been doing their job, I should have a few poults before too long.

Kmac- type “Nando” into the search bar. It'll pull up a story about someones runt chick who was alway smaller than the rest.
Also how is the training coming along?

I LOVE Nando! What an awesome story! I've been working with the dog as much as possible, which isn't as much as I would like or she needs. I let her out earlier before the chickens came out and she jumped up on the run trying to get inn, she did listen when I told her to get down and go inside.

I'm glad to hear she is making progress :D! :fl hope she continues to do well!

We picked up our first chickens today!

What we intended to pick up were 3 barred Plymouth rocks and 1 EE (OK, they were called Ameraucana, but I'm hedging my bets since I never could really figure out how to tell the difference
idunno.gif
). What we actually came home with was 3 barred rocks and 2 EEs. One of the EEs has a crossed beak - hubby is calling it a bonus bird since she was free. She eats and drinks just fine...just about the only problem I saw her have today was in trying to catch an ant with the rest of the chickens. Mostly she just scared the ant really badly. We're not free-ranging, so I think she'll do fine.

I took some pictures while they were settling in (it's surprisingly hard to get a picture of a young chicken!) The EE's were hatched in mid-January and the barred rocks were hatched at the end of January.

They were REALLY excited about the ants. I foresee a sharp drop off in the ant population.

Mostly I got pictures of butts. Lots of feathered butts.

Look! An ANT! (Cue Pink Panther Theme: dead ant, dead ant, dead ant dead ant dead ant dead ant, dead aaaaant)

Food and water hanging under the tree. They get it to spinning and then walk in circles trying to follow it!

ETA: I know it looks like their run is just chain link fence, but we've wrapped the entire thing chicken wire as well. I tried to get a picture but couldn't get the camera to focus well enough. No holes big enough to let curious chicken heads through or grasping predators either!

glad to meet you

your birds are pretty

I think I see a rumpless EE which could mean she is an Araucana or
Araucana cross but would still lay the blue eggs or a greenish tint egg.
I love mine.

We started out with BRs......nice birds.
