I think they are Tetra Tints. I got them out of the pullet bin at TSC. It said they could be any of the production egg layers. The only difference in the six is the one that did the "deed" has orange legs and a black beak, where the other ones have yellow/greenish legs and a yellow beak. I put the offender in timeout last night to give the others a chance to recover a bit. They have been out for most of the day. Hopefully it was a one time occurance and related to them being in the cage most of the day yesterday because of the weather. Here is a photo of the offender. It's not a good pic but the only close up I have of he/she. And as of now most of the purple has worn off my hands, but I still have a lot around my cuticles.

Takes forever for that stuff to wear off. lol I have a bantan cochin who is sporting a purple tail right now, very becoming too I might add. I have Blue-Kote clothes, and towels in case you ever need to borrow some. LOL And look at all that green grass you must not have ducks.

Hopefully boredom was what started it and as they get out and have fun in the yard it won't happen again. might try going to TSC and getting a forage cake though just for those days they have to be kept penned up.

LoL... and I thought I was bad... I named my pot-belly pigs... Porkchop, Fatback & Tenderloin...

We name our chickens too... er.. umm... most of them anyways.
But speaking of my pot-bellies... Fatback had her "bacon bits" today....

She had 7 piglets, but 2 didn't make it... so we have 5 beautiful baby pot-belly pigs. (3 girls & 2 boys)

OH MY WORD...CUTENESS OVERLOAD!! Mary, I think I want to abandon my mini farm and come live with you!!

DH has been WANTING "bacon bits" so he can raise his own "bacon" so I beg you...please don't let him see these pictures!! I think Alex, Beth & I FINALLY have him talked out of getting pigs. I wouldn't mind taking the surprise visitor though!! I love amphibians!! As for Jasper...what a handsome fellow, although, what IS he?? (As of late, I can only identify cochins, orpingtons and silkies - 2 of the 3 breeds I have. I know I NEED to learn more breeds, therefore I NEED to OWN more!! Beth is helping me out with that!!)

GOOD TUESDAY Morning everyone!! The AC guy is suppose to be here this morning (late morning) and I could not be happier. The weather the past few days has been great - not too hot, so it figures that we'd get the AC fixed when we don't really NEED it!! LOL, oh well. Get it fixed and it will be ready for when we do NEED it!! I did have a rough start to my Monday, but DH more than made up for it by surprising me with a treat: a "black cow" (it's a mixed Root Beer Float - so I guess you could say a Root Beer Milkshake?)!! He went out and picked up some vanilla (coconut milk) Ice Cream and some Root Beer (the ONLY time I do soda or pop - can't remember what it's called down here. LOL).

I may put on all the post pregnancy weight I have lost!! LOL. No chicken news to report of here...so with that, I will bid everyone a WONDERFUL Tuesday...I hope if it rains you won't need your waders and canoes, but I like the idea of NOT having to water my dying garden (it's official...I have a BLACK thumb...anyone want to come over next year and try to salvage our next planting??) or our orchard!!

I am in Liberty. Not too far away from you. What do you have in your flock, and what are you looking for?

Right now I possibly have a columbian wyandotte/leghorn cross as id'd by some people on here and the other is some kinda mutt/ee. I haven't got a good picture up yet but she's mostly black with a greyish head and when I pull her wings out the got some rusty brown feathers and a couple white ones. I am kinda hoping just a get a few different breeds and start my flock as diverse as possible and as I learn more about each of them then go from there on what breeds I want to focus on. My focus for now is egg laying and as pets. So big calm friendly egg layers If we get some roos and start breeding we might eat them, but that is 1-2 yrs away. Right now my setup can accept 6 more pullets. I am not prepared for roos yet. Some breeds that I felt were of interest would be cochin, red star/red sex link, orphington, buckeye, ameraucana, and barred rock. All standard sizes, no bantams. We have some resident hawks on the property and I figure bantams would not have a high success rate. I currently started letting my two free range because in theory they are big enough that a hawk shouldn't mess with them. I say in theory because I have a red tail hawk that I train at work and I feel like no matter what books say about the size of food they go after, he'd probably go after anything. He is greedy. After being a hovering mom I realized they spent majority of thier day in and out of the brush around my house. They don't spend much time out in the field, I guessing cause the recent heat. I do have a pen set up off the side of thier coop, but that was just for when they were smaller. I much rather have birds that I feel comfortable letting range.

I need to figure out something else for these two pairs of bantams. I don't like them in the hanging cages. They need to get to the ground. I brought out extra cages last weekend, and transferred them to them out in the grass, in the shade, and they loved that, but they still couldn't dust bathe. And hubby had to help me get them in, as I couldn't do it alone. They need permanent access to the ground. Just gotta figure out how.

And I still have some to pick up, so I need to figure it out for three groups.

Jasper is a serama... he came from Beth's. I was gonna keep my seramas off the ground too... but they enjoy the dirt so much... I just couldn't do that to them.... Hubby is gonna build me a double decker Serama cage with a house up top and a wired in cage at the bottom... with a set of chicken stairs so they can get to the dirt when they want and go up top in the house part to keep out of cold/rainy weather... as they are not a cold hardy breed of chicken. I might have to put a light in their house during really cold weather so they can't catch a chill.

Xrainxbowx, I live in Reidsville and have some hens that are laying. My 1 year old hens are Dorking hybrids, 1 Barred rock, 1 Australorpe. My just started laying are 3 Speckled Sussex 2 are broody and have been for awhile, 3 Ameraucana(black) 2 lay blue eggs 1 lays a green, and I have the new Euskal Oiloa hens that have just started laying this week. Let me know if you are interested.

I'm wanting to downsize alot b/c I had a shed that I have brooding some chicks burned down. It was the heat lamp.

Yes I know I should have let my broody's raise them! DUH! But I have too many chickens and one less shed for them. I will have to go back to work at the end of the summer.

If I don't go to the WCA this weekend maybe next. I still have to figure out how to get my chickens there as far as what to put them in. Half of my tools burned and I'm thinking maybe cardboard boxes with holes cut in them and buy their wooden ones there? My DH says hold off on getting rid of some of my chickens until I have to spend the $$ on the feed. And no more heat lamps, how can I argue that one? Any advise on the WCA would be helpful. I also have white Silkies, Seramas, and bantam cochins-millie fluer ans low quality whites.
