Xrainxbowx, I live in Reidsville and have some hens that are laying. My 1 year old hens are Dorking hybrids, 1 Barred rock, 1 Australorpe. My just started laying are 3 Speckled Sussex 2 are broody and have been for awhile, 3 Ameraucana(black) 2 lay blue eggs 1 lays a green, and I have the new Euskal Oiloa hens that have just started laying this week. Let me know if you are interested.

I'm wanting to downsize alot b/c I had a shed that I have brooding some chicks burned down. It was the heat lamp.

Yes I know I should have let my broody's raise them! DUH! But I have too many chickens and one less shed for them. I will have to go back to work at the end of the summer.

If I don't go to the WCA this weekend maybe next. I still have to figure out how to get my chickens there as far as what to put them in. Half of my tools burned and I'm thinking maybe cardboard boxes with holes cut in them and buy their wooden ones there? My DH says hold off on getting rid of some of my chickens until I have to spend the $$ on the feed. And no more heat lamps, how can I argue that one? Any advise on the WCA would be helpful. I also have white Silkies, Seramas, and bantam cochins-millie fluer ans low quality whites.
Yay!!! Some one actually close by! :D I felt sooooo alone out here. I went jogging the other day and turns out a guy two streets over has a but ton of chickens. I think seramas by my very uneducated guess. I was so tempted just to go knock on his door and be like, "will you sell me some of your chickens and mentor me." But then being a single girl, jogging alone in the country, I chickened out :) I would love to meet up and see your chickens. A lot of the ones you named I haven't even heard of. What are the price ranges on your girls?

Sent you a pm!

FYI: Chicks ONLY in cardboard boxes and WCA. They sell crates for $1 each. You can bring them in boxes and they will switch them over for you.
Also I would recommend getting there early 10-11am to drop off birds so you get a good selling spot. They sell approx 100 boxes per hour, sales starts at 2pm...crowd thins around dinner time. Just my opinion....for the better money.

Sorry to hear about your chicks and coop..

Takes forever for that stuff to wear off. lol I have a bantan cochin who is sporting a purple tail right now, very becoming too I might add. I have Blue-Kote clothes, and towels in case you ever need to borrow some. LOL And look at all that green grass you must not have ducks.

Hopefully boredom was what started it and as they get out and have fun in the yard it won't happen again. might try going to TSC and getting a forage cake though just for those days they have to be kept penned up.

No ducks here. All the chicks have what looks like purple earmuffs on right now. I would post photos, but they look so pitiful I'm ashamed to. I sure do hope they shed the down that's left on their head so they can get rid of some of the purple. I'll definitely pick up a forage cake next time I'm out. That's a good idea. They have been out for 10 hours today and loved every second.

I bet they did, my chickens have never been penned up, I know some have to do it because of neighbors and neighborhood dogs, but I just don't think I could have chickens or ducks if I had to keep them penned up. I love to see them running around enjoying life. Yep they don't look so pretty when donning purple but it does the job,. I can remember when i was a kid[believe it or not] lol and when we would go to Tallahassee To visit relatives[ I'm originally from FL.] I would see kids running around with Blue-Kote on their legs covering their mosquito bites/ Now that was strange looking.

Just wanted to pop on and say that DH told me that he suspects we have TWO broodies!!

My black/lav split orpington (don't know which one yet as I have 2, so it's either Flopsy or Mopsy...LOL) and one of the Marans (he said the black/gray one...so I am not sure which one he is referring to. LOL. I think it might be Dutchess which is my Maran/EE "Mutt"). Sadly, the Orpington is only on ONE egg, so I may have to get some eggs for her to sit on!! Hear that Beth/Alex?? I may be hitting you up for some eggs!!

LOL, and I still need more hens!! Got to love chicken math!!

My question: If you saw my broody/quarantine pen from when I posted pics of my other broody (who is now a mama)...is that large enough to house 2 broodies?? Is there anything wrong with having two broodies contained together?? Are there any problems I might run into if I did that? Thank you in advance for your help/advice. I am sorry I keep asking so many questions. You all have been GREAT!!
