Hey Kristan did you make the switches with your birds yet? if so how'd it go? My lil cochin has vent gleet, I am treating her with monostat. [sp] I'm hoping she'll get over it.

Power was out for about an hour and a half....really not a big deal, except I have chicks hatching right now. I will be watching carefully for sticky chicks.

Sorry to butt in, but I have had to deal with vent gleet a few times over the years. Even once in a Rooster. I can tell you what I did that successfully treated all of them.

First clean the vent thoroughly daily and apply ointment. I actually used 3-1 for wounds, but it works. It has antibacterial and antifungal in it. I tried antifungal cream on Screech and he had a reaction to it. The drunk rooster took 2 days to get back to normal.

Also I give a capsule of Fish-Mox(Amoxicillin) when I did the vent cleaning. You only do this for 5 days to prevent/treat secondary infection which is really common with gleet.

After 2-3 days the amount of yeast/infection you clean off each time will start to go down if not earlier. Some clear up fast and others take quite a long time. Screech took over 3 weeks to fully clear up. That was 2 years ago. He has not had any problem since.

Just be sure to keep applying ointment to the vent for 3 days after the last time you have to clean anything off. If not you may not get it all out and it can come back.

Good morning folks

hope everyone survived the damp weather

Hope no one has alot of puddles and mud
and if you do that your ducks are enjoying it

ML.......oh my....a bear, glad that only the
fence and bird feeder/house are all that was
damaged. There are bears everywhere in NC
and I have been lucky enough to not have a visit
by one.

Congrats on all the new birds to everyone.
Welcome to all our new folks

how much room are we talking can i bring my chickens and pseudo wife and baby??? two dogs and cats.. sorry to hear about your garden I hear some tomatoes dont do so hot here. I have some romas they are doing awesome and a bunch of heirlooms that seem to be doing well. I am sure you know but when you plant them they say you should cover half the plant i did that with all mine and they seem to be doing really well.

Let's see...the baby can play with ours (how old? we have a 1 mo and a 20mo), the pseudo wife - cool...someone to bounce cooking ideas off of!! Hmm...DD#1 is terrified of dogs, so that would be an issue...and we are cat people, so that is cool. I have a chicken coop out back that could be retrofitted for your bunch, just know my alpha roo is ALPHA (in his mind). We're looking at building a garage with a full apartment loft above it, so once that's completed I'll get back to you! LOL

I honestly don't know what happened with my tomatoes & peppers. I bought some heirloom Roma & Juicing Tomatoes as well as a random variety pack (to try out different heirlooms) for peppers, I bought heirloom Cayenne, Jalapeno, John's and a bunch of sweet. They did FANTASTIC indoors in the flats and I did the painstaking "adjustment" taking them outside a little at a time for weeks before transplanting. I even put an egg shell and some epsom salt in the hole when I planted the tomatoes, watered generously, but <splat> they were gone - withered and died. I just bought some starter plants, and they are TRYING to survive...we'll see what happens...although I did NOT know that you were suppose to cover half the plant. Maybe that's why!! Oh well, they are already planted, and I don't want to kill them any further by touching them!! LOL. Thanks for the tip, it will help out next year!!

I didn't go look yesterday, I wanted to but I will look this morning. I did see a small bird flying around some bushes right below where I propped up the pvc post with the house on it so I hope. Pretty sure it's chickadees. We have bears all over these mountains and I love the wild life but this looks like he was in a pickup truck when he hit the fence then hit the post with the bird house on it. I just wish he'd used the gate.

This time of year bears are hungry the berries haven't come in yet and food is scarce I shouldn't have left the bird feeder out over night but it had been 2 years since one had come through for a snack and I got lax. Now i don't have a bird feeder to hang out will be looking for one before cold weather starts back up.
