Good morning! Well heard what resembled an attempt at crowing from the chicken house this morning. Babies were 7 weeks old yesterday. Now to determine who did it
hu.gif
. I have one definite roo and the verdict is still out on one other. 2 I am sure are hens. Someone called me yesterday and said she had heard that I wanted some Buff Orpingtons and that she would be glad to give me some fertile eggs...ok, how deeply into this chicken thing am I wanting to get??
big_smile.png
So today I am trying to round up an incubator
yesss.gif
and hubby says he will help!

Good morning everyone!!

Broodies are doing well...the lone chick is growing fast (I still suspect it's a rooster) and I cannot believe it's almost 7 weeks old as my DD#2 is already 6 weeks old!! Can you believe it? My how fast time flies.

I hope you all have a great day!!

Good morning everyone!

Do they make an incubator with battery back-up? If they can do it with alarm clocks, surely they have with incubators. Our electricity was off for several hours last night and I have turkey and bantam eggs in.

I'll leave them to see, and certainly didn't open the incubator and let the heat out. I know mama will get off the nest briefly, but this was a lot longer. We'll see.

I caught something in my live-catch trap this morning!

Too bad it was just my Royal Palm turkey hen. Getting her out was fun. My trap is single-ended, not double.

I've got one of my BCM teenagers trapped underneath the barn...somehow. I've got them in the rabbit lean-to. There's chicken wire and 2 x 4 wire blocking access to under the barn. Somehow one has gone through it and is under the barn. I can't find a hole in it anywhere. I also can't get the bird out. I tore a hole in the wire on the front of the barn where nobody else can go in, and put a bowl of water through it and to the side. Hopefully she'll (figures it's a pullet!) come for water and see the exit and I can collect her out of the yard. If not, hubby comes back tomorrow, and he can make a bigger hole than I can.

CSB...why Dunn? What's in Dunn that makes you go there for feed?

Champion Milling is in Dunn and just as close, if not closer,
to me than Family Farm or Southern Gin in Fayetteville
.........and they have better prices on alot of things.
I get a discount for a 10 bag purchase there.

Woke up in the middle of the night to the most horrendous sound. I don't even know how to describe it...sort of like a velociraptor fighting a cougar right outside my window. I got the flashlight, but couldn't find anything. I heard this sound once before, and the same night, 4 of my chickens disappeared.
barnie.gif
So I went out early this morning, and they were all fine. But something did try it's hardest to dig it's way under the coop. Fortunately, I just buried a new hardware cloth skirt on Sunday. In your face mysterious predator!

So what do you figure...chupacabra? Seriously though, I thought I'd heard every possible wildlife sound...but never this one! It was blood-curdling.

Good morning all, hope everyone is well today.

My girls have new perches in their runs today, After cutting down my fallen tree I placed the branches and trunk in the run for them to sit and perch on during the day.

Blood-curdling sounds are often produced by bobcats.

I candled my runner ducks once more last night before lockdown..3 internal and 2 external pips! I have been having a horrible time with the humidity incubating these, so I feared the worst. I have 13 still looking good!

Pictures to follow if I'm successful!

I also have 2 broody hens sitting on eggs! Flavio lectured me about needing to pick up the eggs sooner. I secretly didn't.. :)
