Today just has not been my day... I almost got hit by a school bus cause some idiot tried to run me off the road. Then I came home and my poor Goldie is dead

. She was a lone GLW in with twin Frizzles and twin EEs but they had been raised together for a long time and got along fine. She wasn't really adventurous so I doubt she tried to get out and was pecked. I was really looking forward to having a GLW too... Maybe if I buy one for myself for my birthday Tuesday, my mom won't notice lol wishful thinking I know but oh well

She was just startin to lose some of her baby floof. This was taken 2 days ago and she was totally happy and healthy then.

I just got my husband his father's day gift early and they just showed up... he's thrilled!!!

Going to get the lawn mowed bi-weekly for him. He's so happy, we got a great price and its going to be so nice to know each sunday he usually does our yard and the neighbor's he can actually relax, or do something here he's been dying to do (or hit the honey-do list I got for him a mile long)! Hahahah

I hope to be seeing some of you Sunday, the class is still on and I'm printing up booklets and getting everything for the class tomorrow.

Any last minute Jam Class participants?!

I thought I would share a picture of our broody EE hen, who I think I am naming Hazel. If all goes well we should have chicks sometime around June 7-8th.

The plan is to have our current chicks join the adults next week and if that goes well we will move the broody to the box they have been in and let her hatch whatever comes from these eggs and leave her in the brooder box for 2 weeks then let her rejoin the flock. How important is candling when using a broody? I haven't done it and since I don't have the equipment to do it, the knowledge to do it, nor do I want to mess with taking her eggs from her to check them I am just letting nature happen and not attempting to candle them. Am I going about it all wrong not candling the eggs?

I like to candle simply because I am curious. I almost never candle broodies till day 18 or so, but I do sniff the eggs from time to time. Don't want one to rot and pop under her. That can contaminate and ruin all the others. All you need to candle is a flashlight with new batteries. I use a mini-mag or equivalent.
