lost my second Cochin this morning or last night. she was acting strange all day yesterday and i had to get her last night to put her in the coop. She was very sluggish last night. This morning she was dead. Could it be just a coincidence that both Cochin's died and they were from the same person do i need to medicate my entire flock?

I am so sorry for your loss!! I wish I could help, but I do NOT know anything about sicknesses. With that said, because both died and came from the same person, I would be suspicious. I would think it would be wise to treat everyone else, just in case, but then again, I have already said I don't know ANYTHING in this area. We've only had chickens for a year and haven't come across much. I am sure someone more experienced/wiser than I will be able to offer you better advice. Still, I am sorry for your loss!!

Good morning folks

hope everyone is happy this fine day

the ducklings we got at WCA were not
handled much at all and think people are the
boogieman.......they run and squeak/cheep
if we get near them. They still have baby down
so we are putting them in the coop at night and out in
a small pen for the day......

I just worry a predator will get them.........

so they get caught and touched at least twice a day
and petted and all but what treats would help with
getting them warm to us?

When I got my first ducks from the feed store they were like yours- just not socialble at all. I used to bribe them with baby spinach and grapes split in half. I would also just sit around in the pen with them a lot. They never got to the point of not being touch-me-nots, but I could always catch them if needed and they would eat out of my hand. 8 years now and Peep(he's the only one left of the original three) still takes food from my hand- pellets or other goodies. I wasn't ever interested in having uber friendly ducks so I guess that's why I didn't try to pick them up and such. Seemed to stress them out more. Good luck!

Oh! My ducks LOVE LOVE LOVE watermelon. We give them the rhines after cutting one up and a couple days later all that is left is a paper like piece of green peeling. :)

I want a better incubator. I was seriously considering forking out for a Sportsman, but honestly, it would take up more room than I want to give it, and it would be "out" year-round, tempting me to hatch more often than is in my ever-changing plan. I think I'd rather have something smaller. (Translation: I think I'd be under better control with something smaller!) Tell me what you have and why you like it, please. (Translation: Tell me what I should get and why! ) I'm leaning toward the electronic Hovabator at the moment....

Thanks. I know how hard it is for you guys to enable others. I appreciate the tremendous effort you are about to expend on my behalf.

Sorry to hear that........ How old ? If you were not seeing or hearing sneezes, running eyes, nose..... I would think Cocci or worms, both can cause death.
