Good Morning everyone!!
We're planning on doing some yard work today while we wait for my aunt to arrive (she wasn't sure if she was going to make it back today or not. UGH). We told her she was invited to a processing party, but HAHAHA I swear her face turned a shade of green and she politely declined. (Hey, maybe that's why she didn't commit to coming back today).
Our 11 babies are doing well!! DD LOVES watching them out in the yard. One got stuck yesterday in the fencing we put up around the broody coop and we tried to help it...boy oh boy did mama Maran puff up and try to attack DH & I. Good thing DD stayed back!! The biddy was rescued, reunited with mama and the broody coop shut down until the next broody or...some guineas!! Speaking of guineas...when I get them, will it be okay to leave them outside in the broody pen? How long do I have to wait until they are set "free"??
Hoping

to make it to Alex's processing "party". Does anyone know what time it starts??

Have a great day everyone!!

Just got done cleaning house...more or less....since my BIL and family will be here in a bit. Now is a good time to come visit.

Should get one poult and some bantams hatching between today and Monday. We shall see.....

My leg bands finally got here. I can start getting everyone tracked much better than using zip ties. Many more colors of bands! I already set up a spreadsheet with the ones that are wearing zips, and the groups that need banding. I'll do it in sections as we move them into new housing. I'll likely need to order more; different sizes or colors. I just took a guess as to sizes, but ordered several.

The sun is shining. I'm tired. And they'll be here in about an hour, wanting supper.

were a bit late to help/learn processing......sorry folks.

fine company of all who were there....thanks for having us

I hope you all had a great time at the processing party! Sorry I didn't get out of work on time to join to you all. Seems like everyone got through the birds fast, ate and ran. Maybe next time :p

It was SO NICE to meet you!! Sorry we had to leave so soon after you arrived, but both girls definitely NEEDED a nap (one also needed to be fed...again). So sorry we didn't have more time to chat and for our girls to play!! Perhaps next time!!
A special thank you to Alex for opening her home up for the processing party!! DD enjoyed all your "baby" chickens and talked about baby chickens the whole way home...okay, she lasted about 10 minutes before conking out and barely woke up when we stopped by Ally's place!! Came home to eat and put everyone to bed early...WOOHOO!!
Also a special thanks to Beth who loaned me a chair to plop myself upon to feed DD2 and observe!

Your kids were super sweet!! A special moment was when DS2 offered to get my DD1 his soccer ball to play with!! AWE!! Of course your girls and DS1 & DS3 were also sweet...you have a fine bunch there!! Also, DH wants to know how your "steak" tastes...because he's definitely interested in eating one!! LOL.
Everyone there was SO sweet!! Sorry to miss you Vfem - I am sure there will be another time.
Have a great evening everyone!!

Broody and chick update: Today when checking on our broody Hazel this afternoon we got excited for a bit when we saw an empty brown egg shell. Hazel was eating it. DH looked for a chick but did not find a new chick nor any evidence that there was a chick in the egg that was broken and Hazel was eating. Is it possible that this was an infertile/dud egg and Hazel broke it and ate it? We didn't take the shell from her because we figured it was just calcium for her and maybe she needed it. DH is wanting to give the eggs till Sunday then toss them, I will see if he will leave them a little longer to see what they may do.

I got the little chick out tonight and decided to try to feather sex it just for the heck of it and see when it gets older if it turns out to be accurate. Well according to feather sexing we have a pullet. We'll see if that ends up being right or not.

Good Morning Everyone!

The inlaws are chowing down on a breakfast of homegrown eggs and store-bought bacon with biscuits. They'll be heading out to the dive competition shortly. Then I can get to chores. The chickens are confused. The sun is up and they haven't been released yet.
