Well... so far I have lost one lion-head rabbit and 2 blue splash Ameraucanas to this heat....
somad.gif
we left and went to Tractor Supply, to pick up some feed.... get back and find the dead bodies...
sad.png
and they hadn't been dead long... as the bodies were still quite floppy.

So, I started down the line... spraying everybody down with a spray bottle filled with water... my female turkeys followed me down the line, so I would spray them.... LoL.... they liked it.

Most of my chickens did not care for the spraying... but some of them actually enjoyed it.

I sprayed my Quail and my bunnies, too.

It was 110* on our enclosed back porch, where we keep our brooder boxes.... so we had to bring them in and put them in the laundry room. Got them inside just in time... as some of the chicks had fell out... but once they cooled down... they started acting better. Poor babies.

I will be headed back out to spray everybody down again, in a few.

Gotta keep 'em cool.

Everyone keep yourselves hydrated if you must go out in this heat and take care of yourselves... it is just too danged hot. They just said, on the news that it's gonna be 107* tomorrow.

I'm so sorry!!! I almost lost a black sex link rooster. He was laid out and so he got a cool water shower then put in a crate and brought into the kitchen where it is cool. He is doing better and seems like he is going to be just fine. My other pens are doing surprisingly well.....barely any of them even have their wings out or are panting. I have 1 pen that seems to be getting a little warm but so far everyone seems ok.

I worry about tomorrow the most....I'll be leaving for work by 7am and won't be home until after 9am Sunday morning....thats a long time for something to go wrong. UGH

Oh so sorry for your loss. Hubby wants to take off on the bike tomorrow for the day, I am worried about the babies in this heat, may move the brooder to the laundry room as well. Thanks that is a good idea

Well, DH says I lost my 3 sliver lakenvelder adult birds. :( I hope that the babies off them make it.

The dog ain't mine, its a drop off that the crazy man feeds.

Hope no more pets are lost any where. Stay cool and remember that over heated birds are at a higher risk of dying in the next few hot days, so keep the heat stressed birds in for a few days. Good luck.

All was well when I checked early afternoon, but I lost my favorite, beautiful, best Splash Orpington hen.

Everyone else is showing some heat stress, but no losses even among the youngest. I'm disturbing them as little as possible. This is not going to be a good week.

Last night I went with my gut after WRAL said 106 degrees for two days and put my broody/babies, 3 month olds and my oldest rooster in carriers in our bathroom. The others I put in our crawl space under the house, which is full of sand and very cool at 80 degrees.

Just hope when I let them all out Monday morning they won't get shocked by the heat...that's the only downfall.

So very sorry for your losses. :hit

I have to brag on my kids........ Went to Alex's (doublea) and she taught them to process chickens. My DDs actually stepped up to the plate, processed the birds matter of factly and did GREAT !!

Thanks Alex...for the great lesson & guiding them every step of the way.

So far so good, Have fans rigged up now and more ice bottles ready to go in the morning.
BTW I'm not the crazy man here in this story

, somebody else is!!!

Ice bottles in freezer and gonna move the brood box to the laundry room in the am, it's on the west side of the house and gets warm but has an ac vent right out side the door and good curtains and double pane windows so not as hot as the porch where they have been for sure. The next 2 older bunches are moved to the north side of the house and will have a good bit of shade for most of the day. The ground around there is always moist and cooler, so hope with addition of ice bottles they will be ok. I can't believe this heat. So so sorry for all the lost fur/feather babies. Pray this will not last as long as predicted.
