Just did a walk through again! Lots of panting and wings hanging down. Praying for no losses. I have a fan running...best I can do.
Ice bottles are ready...frozen squash and peas. Lots of cold leftovers.

Sorry for all the losses.

I have to brag on my kids........ Went to Alex's (doublea) and she taught them to process chickens. My DDs actually stepped up to the plate, processed the birds matter of factly and did GREAT !!

Thanks Alex...for the great lesson & guiding them every step of the way.

update....we lost some baby rabbits this afternoon......age from a few days old to a few weeks old.....sure hope this heat don't last as long as they say it will....my DW and I are pretty upset over our loss.....kinda feel like we let em down but we did all we could for em to keep them cool....I told her everthing happens for a reason and we gotta hope for the best for the rest of our babies on our mini-farm and put our worres in the hands of our Lord and trust in him

Poor... poor baby bunnies...

I went out and sprayed all the adults and some of the little ones... but didn't want to spray the ones with no hair... we lost almost all of those.... I could see where they had foamed at the mouth and if their momma's had went in to feed them... that probably made it worse with all of the fur. I have too many to bring them in the house.... I will figure something out tomorrow.

Frozen water bottles.... we take the caps off and the animals can sip the cold water. I have bunches in the freezer. We even use old plastic containers with ice in them.
Would not be to good for the tiny baby bunnies, but if in or near the nest box could act like a mini A/C. Will add you to my prayers this evening.

I agree with that! Way better to start the kids young, let them see where the dinner is comming from and let them learn to do it themself. I always thought that what I had cleaned tasted better, be it fish or bird or some other critter, when I was a kid!

They will proudly but their birds on the table tomorrow.

I only have four girls and this is our first summer. I left a dishpan of water in their run this afternoon and they avoided it but when I just checked on them one of the black hens was laying in it. Of the other three, one was on the roost panting and wings hanging, another in the nest box, another in a corner, so unusual because they are always on the roost. I took those three and one at a time put them in another dish pan filled with water and gently poured water on them. I iced the small waterer and put it in the coop, DH misted the run. I hope I didn't stress them out more but I felt like something had to be done. And tomorrow is going to be even hotter???

I'm sorry for all the losses, and realizing how lucky we were today with only one. Tomorrow's the day. Scary.

At least Reilly (the pup) has decided that tonight he does not want to sleep outside. I prefer he stay in, but he's been wanting to sleep out for the last three weeks. This changed his mind pretty quickly. He's learning about A/C. Speaking of A/C...ours was working pretty hard and only getting the house down to about 80. Hubby added a window unit that we have had stored out in the shop since the A/C went out once, and it's made a world of difference by taking the load of the main. He's going to pick up another tomorrow. Better to pay for a window unit than a new main, not to mention living without it this coming week.

And I've got a friend who leaves the back door to her house open 24/7/365 so their dog can come and go as he pleases.

I'm glad I don't have their electric bill or the repair bills when their heat and air invariably have broken down at the worst of the season each year. But she thinks I'm silly for going out in the heat of the day to give ice to the chickens.

I guess everyone has their priorities, eh?

Stay cool. If you're trying and still lose animals, just think of the wild critters who have no help at all.

We had some clouds for quite a while this morning/afternoon and didn't get as hot as we were supposed too. Our high was 99. Thankfully I didn't loose anyone today, but several went to roost panting with wings hanging. I am afraid of who I will find dead in the morning.

2:45 am and still too hot to sleep.

I have a dream of living in a house with AC. Oh well.

We have a spare room since the kids are gone. You're welcome to it should you need it!

Good Morning, Everyone!

All the birds look good this morning, and there's a bit of a breeze blowing right now. We refilled all the water and sprayed the ground where we could this morning. Ice at noon, I think. When I get some bottles out of the freezer, I'll put more in. Just didn't have room for as many as I wanted.

Hope all goes well with everyone today.
