A late Good Morning, Everyone!

Had a dentist appointment at 7:30 this morning, so am all out of whack on my "pattern" for Fridays.

Hubby and I discussed the options for the poultry last night. Since saving Bob, our seven-year-old tom turkey, is our main goal, we are slaughtering chickens this weekend. The faster they are gone, the lower the risk to the turkeys. Even though the turkeys tested clean this week, they could still test positive next time if they get exposed. So, kill the remaining chickens and treat the turkeys; that's our plan. Three weeks after the run of antibiotics is done, they will retest the turkeys. The may have to do it one more time, a month further out. So, we are looking at October or November before we can restock chickens.

That's not the standard time for chicks, so I may be waiting until spring to restock. We shall see how it goes.

Oh. I still have a headache from the turkey hen slamming into my head on Wednesday. Well. A face-ache. Dang bird.

Have a great day everyone.

I know I've read about it before, but I now I can't remember what it means! Help!

You will want to separate her...and start to treat with antibiotic. Someone here should chime in .... I believe Tylan50 is what others are using.

I second that. I would treat aggressively with 1cc for LF and 1/2 cc for bantam for 5 days. You can just put it in her mouth. Be VERY careful not to contaminate the rest of the birds and keep a close eye on them for any sneezing, runny noses, or off symptoms. Fingers crossed for you!

Bubbles in the eye followed with swelling around the eyes is what started my issues. I had necropsies done and found I had MG. Do some serious isolation and full biosecurity to try to keep it out of the rest of your flock, no matter what yours turns out to be. Tylan 50 is the drug of choice. You can not over-control disease. "Better safe than sorry", just like Mom always said! The current birds who will be put down have not gotten the eye symptoms, although I have had sneezing and we noticed one with thick mucus when we tested Wednesday.

Good luck

edited to emphasize that yours could easily be something different. The reason I took mine in for necropsy is that there are so many respiratory diseases in birds that I couldn't isolate which it might be.

Quote: What? That sounds horrible!!!

I still have one from the WCA that has a swollen eye that discharged today. I have been just cleaning it with sterile warm water, and tossing the tissues for the passed two days. It looked gross to me yesterday. I am going to wait till my husband gets in, but I think I am going to cull him!! >>>> thus need for hubby

If I have to treat them all will I need more needles or can I give Tylan orally? Some are only weeks old, and he is the only one showing any signs. The other two birds that were sick before have passed and had injuries before getting sick.

The one bird that I was worried about before is fine. I think it was a mating injury with her Tarzan!!! Silly Sebrights!!!

Sick birds bug me out!
