I think we'll be okay. They are locked into the old chickenhouse, not a big run. The inspector seemed willing to grab birds last time, and he'll only have to grab two, so we should be good. I can always catch Bob up and restrain him, mostly because he's used to it. The rest the inspector can grab.

Two more days. I wish this was over.

If the turkeys come up positive, we'll have to destroy them. If they are negative, they may remove quarantine now, since they've tested negative twice. Or they may require another test in another month before they lift quarantine. It depends on the pathologist. Since we had positive birds on the property still during the first test, they could disregard it and require two consecutive tests with no positive birds on the property. Rather, no positive poultry, because this stuff can be carried by wild birds.

Either way, I'll have results by the end of the week and will have a timeline and a plan.

We went to dinner tonight to celebrate hubby's birthday. It's tomorrow, but he'll be on his business trip. A neighbor called to see if we'd left the driveway gate open on purpose.

She was kind enough to get the dogs shut into the empty sheep pasture while we headed home to see what was up
.
The pup, Reilly, had gone as far as the road, and Jake halfway down the driveway! Murphy, the old man, had stayed in the yard as he's supposed to. At least they had all stayed in to start with...for at least an hour...before they heard her dogs barking across the street and decided to investigate. We are sooooooo lucky. Our Boys are not car smart At. All. Reilly in particular would not survive playing in the street. He'd either be hit or picked up. He'd get in someone's car if the asked him to. He loves to ride. We are all just so lucky!

I hope your day was wonderful!
Meg, You have a very nice neighbor lady!! Glad all worked out for the best for you guys!

So folks I have a Beautiful juvenile Black copper maran rooster. He came in a shipment of Birchen chicks. He's sweet tempered and good with the girls. Just started crowing and I need to have him out of the coop due to we can't have roosters at our home location in Durham and we are not breeding Black Copper birds out at our farm. PM me if your interested. As I said in the post above we are located in Durham.

Good Morning, Everyone!

One more day. I'm nervous.

CSB, we pile all the leaves into the chicken moat* and let them compost them over the year, having fun scratching and hunting the crickets and other critters that hide in them. You saw how many oaks are on this property, and how big the chicken moat is. We pile all the leaves in there each and every year. Tarp full and tarp full after tarp full gets dragged there. The moat ends up deep in leaves. But over the year they get composted. Faster than when we were actually putting them in compost bins. That oak tannin doesn't break down rapidly. But since the chicken moat runs around the garden, that breakdown feeds those roots, without us ever having to actually move it over there after it's done breaking down.

Mmmmm....I don't know what we're going to do this year, come to think of it. There aren't any chickens to work on all those leaves!

* Chicken moat...chicken yard that runs around the garden. Keeps the bugs down in the garden.

Have a great day everyone! It's a long day for me, plus I have dog obedience club tonight, if I'm up for it.

Today is a heartbreaking day. I went to let out our chickens this morning to find 4 are missing!! We have had so many people coming and going the past 2 days doing our windows, checking on the installation, dropping things off, etc...that I wonder if someone didn't pick up the chicks and walk off with them or if something else happened. We have not had a predator attack (nor seen the hawk) in at least 2 months (just turkey buzzards) so I don't know what to think. DD1 went with me to let out the chickens and asked about her two...they haven't come out of the coop, so I assumed they were in the coop...sadly they were not. She cried - I fought back tears. Because they haven't left the coop - not even when DH was scrubbing the thing down and raking it - since they arrived, I am more inclined to think that someone took them. They were VERY friendly and would eat out of your hand - I had DD doing that so they would warm up to her. Aside from those 2, I am missing 2 young roosters (cockerels - is that what they are called??). I am heart broken (and angry at the prospect that they might have been taken/stolen)!!

Hollow - we are praying for another negative test for you (Bob & the gang). Tomorrow is almost here!!
