man they came down with the avain pox... but they are all healty and going strong seems they are at the end of it now no losses.. I have been spoiling them rotten.

So after an "emergency" call to a certain BYC'er as well as a few "emergency" texts...I think that my chickens....have chicken pox!! It's much more fun to say chicken pox rather than Avian Pox...LOL. Right now, only the Buff Orphingtons are showing black spots on their combs but I am preparing for the worse.

After processing day, I have come to realize that a)my freezer will be rather full and b)I will have virtually NO laying females. Guess I should get on replenishing my layers...hehe, good thing I know a few enablers and addicts who will gladly help me with my "problem"!! <coughs> BETH <coughs> LOL

On a fun note, my sex link male who is only 4 months old...is BIGGER than my almost 7 month old orpington/cochin mutt!! Woot!! Thanks Alex!!

ETA: DH came home early today and is outside building me a processing table!! WOOHOO. I am abundantly blessed by this man!!

I got them too here in wilmington all my girls are ok and doing well..Including the one that had the foamy eye she has responded well to yogurt and electrolytes also have been cooking the some eggs for protein

would love some trying to figure out what to do.. looking for some land to be able to increase my flock and land to grow more food. I still am not sure on the roosters in ilm city limits the rules are very strange. I am not trying to push my luck

I spend hours watch the teenages as I call them as they come into their own. The dances, darting, play fighting, everything. people sometimes see me just standing or setting there watching the horse grazing or chickens do their thing, or any of my animals and wonder if I am a bit off. laughs. When some ask me later at the store or on the street, I just tell them I become one, kind of with whoever I watch. Talk about stress relief, nothing better... That all happens after the chores are done of course.

Then you've got far more willpower than I do. Of course, the chores are never done, anyway...there's always something on the list to do!

But they are good stress relief. I used to smoke and had tried everything I could think of to quit. When I got chickens, I had quit within a month. It was far more stress-relieving to go sit out and pet a chicken, so that made it easy to quit.

Maybe that's why I've been so depressed and grumpy with no chickens. I had no stress relief. The sheep just don't cut it, and the turkeys don't like to cuddle.

I'm about an hour from you, so here's what has worked for me in the past:

1. Craigslist
2. Advertise at your local feed stores
3. Post a free ad in the Fay Observer
4. Take them to auction

Note that there are several auctions in the area, some good and some bad. If you want pointers on which auctions are considered better, send me a PM.
