Good evening everyone. I have another question and hope you can help. I am getting too many eggs for my own use each week and was thinking of trying to sell them. I see that some of you are NPIP certified. Do I need that to sell? Was thinking about trying to sell at the local farmers market when it starts back this spring. I tried to read and understand the nc egg law. The best I can figure out is that as long as I mark out any labeling on re-used cartons, put a label with my info on it and sell less than 30 dozen a week, I should be ok. I am already sellinggiving some to co workers and friends but still have too many. Thanks for any help with this issue as I'm sure it has been asked before.

Not that this really answers your question, but I just put a sign up front on the property, saying Eggs for sale. I do this each year as my girls really start to lay. Most of the people that buy eggs, keep buying them, so the sign is only up a little while. As for selling eggs at the farmers Fair, I don't have enough really to be worth the cost of going there and back. I do know some sellers that bag their eggs at those farmers fair and some that have custom cartons. really I just don't feel right charging farmer fair prices, approx $5 bucks or so. I guess it's the old karma thing, us 60s kids had...

In fact, I am putting my sign up next weekend as my girls have really started to lay again. This is mainly letting old customers know I have eggs again after the winter slow down. Again, I don't have alot of chickens compare to some but enough so right now I am getting 4 to 5 dozen a week (will most likely drop after it get cold again, maybe not,) and after the new ones start to lay in a couple of months, possible 12 dozen a week give or take. That is after free eggs to neighbors and what we eat... So what ever you do, good luck...

My iPad won't let me paste in the url, but just do a google search for "NC Egg Laws". It will tell you how many eggs you can sell per week before you have to start grading them (I stay below that number on purpose!)' and how you have to label them. Easy laws to follow and no red tape.

Should have finished reading, eh? Yep, basically labeling and staying under thirty dozen per week and you sail under the radar.

good luck selling eggs. I cant where I am at. Either people dont want them or they have their own birds. I give a few to the old lady across the road but thats it. I seen where others have tried to sell eggs down the road but also had the same luck as me

Thanks for the answers. I thought I didn't need any paperwork, but just anted to ask the experts on here. I probably won't have more than 6 dozen a week or so. I have 15 hens right now, different breeds, Ameracaunas, Silkies and some RIs. Right now I sell them for $2.50 a dozen and $3.50 for dozen and half. No one has complained about the prices yet so I think I'll keep it there and see what happens in the spring.

Really? I can't keep up with my egg customers. That's why I was enlarging the flock last year. And on top of that, they told me I was selling too cheaply, and insisted I increase my price. So I did!

Just placed my first spring order with Ideal and loaded up on some cochins and a couple jersey giants. And placed a holding order for June, decide I was gonna go with some cool and unusual egg layers, so I'm getting; Norwegian Jaerhorns, Silver spangled Spitzhuabens, and Cream brabanters for white eggs, and Welsummers, Barnvelders, and cuckoo marans for dark eggs. And then just got to add CSB's olive eggs and I'll be set :woot

Had a freaking turkey vulture try to snatch up on of my roos today  the bird was huge and easily had a 10ft wing span!!! Unfortunately I scared it away with a firecracker. but the damage was done, the wing of the roo almost torn off and a bad gash that took out both eyes. I got the nerve up to cull him and then sat and cried. I HATED that rooster and had been trying to kill him for months because he flogged the crap out me constantly, I just felt bad for him.

Spring is around the corner apparently, because my normally docile roos, who have benn living in harmony most of the winter, went into all out war today! :rant forcing me to go out and separate into breeding groups, early. My back is killing me from bending over to catch chickens all day. And my doctor would not be pleased I spent all day on my feet.

In preggo news, my nesting need has kicked in and I feel the need to clean :D :th and my morning sickness is slowly ebbing :celebrate. I was able to eat duck, spaghetti squash and broccoli tonight, my first real meal in weeks.
