160 I will quit complaining

I have found out through Bhep that you try your best to never count your birds. I have managed to avoid it so far

I did count...161. That does not include chicks in the house or ducks, geese, pea, pheasants, turkey, pigeons or quail. And YES...I did count bantams. 37 are Serama, 14 other bantams...............technically should not count ..IMO That is 51 bantams. So only 110 LF.

9 ducks
6 turkey
6 pheasant
4 geese
2 quail
13 pigeons
5 peafowl

So this is extreme chicken math, I take it. Oh, to have a place big enough to have all those birds... Why I am slow learning chicken math....

Just a quick question this morning...those of you who are more experienced...when do waddles and combs start coming in for boys and girls?? I have a 2 (almost 3) month old chick that is developing some serious side waddles and she is the only one that is developing...so I thought I would ask - because at first (haha) I thought someone had attacked her!!

I'm going to blame it on the cold making the hamsters in my brain get on their wheel too slow!! LOL. Thanks!!

Have a great day everyone...saw that we're in for rain/snow this weekend (so in my case and those of you near me...another MUD PIT). I think I might rent out my yard as a mud wrestling/mudding sight - goodness knows it's not useful for much else these days!!

well I know I have 8 pheasants and 7 turkeys But I REFUSE to count the chickens and I WILL keep telling myself that it's about 30 to 40

I do dread the day that DH makes me count, I think that day I will forget how to count like the kiddos do when homework rolls around

Luke I am planning on driving out WCA on march 27th. I will have buff, light and dark brahmas with me, they will probabaly be 4-5 weeks old, and all pullets(culling out any boys that hatch, unless someone wants one). I'm planning to put them in the auction, but will be more than happy to hold whatever you want back. Just let me know

isn't the 27th a Wednesday?

Atmaclean I would wait til they are fully feathered and it warms up from the teens
They have a lot of their feathers now - but I assume it will be a few more weeks for them to be "fully feathered"?? I've never had babies this early in the year - sorry for the seemingly dumb questions.... They are getting pretty smelly in the house!

Owls will come out in the daytime sometimes. Scottcaddy lost some pigeons last year to a young great horned owl. He even found the thing in the pigeon loft one afternoon (which is how he knows what kind it was, he had to get it out

and neither of them was happy campers about that).

hopefully no one else will lose anymore birds

We think it was a hawk that got my lemon cuckoo orphington hen about a month ago, however, I thought they would grab them and carry them off to eat them...?? Ours was in the same shape with head eaten. I didn't see it, my DH found it and wouldn't let me see it. I was just heartbroken to lose such a sweet little girl. DH told me the head was mostly gone. Maybe she was too heavy for the stupid hawk to carry off. It was right on the side of our house! We always keep a gun ready for the hawks if they are circling, but I wasn't home at the time. Tried to get a falconer to come out to trap some, but he would never show up....
