I have Lavender Ameraucana chicks that I can trade for the following: 1 silver laced sebright bantam, 1 gold laced sebright bantam, and 1 mille fleur dutch bantam. I have a few chicks that are old enough to guess sex and will trade them for birds that sex can be guessed and I have three week old chicks as well. Thanks!

So sorry to hear. I thought the chickens were supposed to be "ok" in the cold?? I keep heat lamps on for my chickens and thought I was a total nut for doing it since most people don't seem to worry about the cold with their chickens. I figure that if they don't need it, it will at least keep their water from freezing during the night. I do find my auracanas going in the coup to get under the lights to warm up. They are also the first ones to go into the coup in the evenings and get right under the lights too.

I've got some 2 chicks that are almost 4 weeks old - black copper marans. Any ideas when they could go out to the coup with a heat lamp on them? It was around 19-20 degrees here last night! I ordered another heated waterer yesterday as the outside water is freezing now - ugh! Just wondering when the little ones can safely move out of the house and into the coup with the older chickens.

Owls will come out in the daytime sometimes. Scottcaddy lost some pigeons last year to a young great horned owl. He even found the thing in the pigeon loft one afternoon (which is how he knows what kind it was, he had to get it out

and neither of them was happy campers about that).

hopefully no one else will lose anymore birds

You counted!

I'm hauling water out for the calves. Gotta make formula, then leave them a bit of warmer water. They're too young to deal with ice water! So I shlep five gallons out there twice a day of warm. And new rabbit bottles. But the poultry just get the ice broken on theirs. I fill it up from the drums as soon as I get home while it's thawed, so when I break it in the morning they have enough to last.

Speaking of hauling water...the single most useful gadget I've ever bought for my place is my muck tub cart. Unlike a wagon, which must be pulled with brute strength, or a wheelbarrow, which has to be picked up and pushed, the muck tub you lean down on to rock it back on the wheels before pushing. You aren't using energy to lift and push. I can move far more in my muck tub cart than I can in a wheelbarrow. That's what I'm using to haul stuff out in the morning. Five gallons of water, plus another gallon and a half for rabbits, plus rabbit treats, plus mixing bucket and milkbar. So over fifty pounds. With my neuromuscular issues, I could never move a wheelbarrow with that much in it, but I can the muck tub. So, if you're broke, or pregnant (!) or have other reasons why lifting isn't good or possible, I highly recommend one. I can even unload feed one bag at a time with it, so I can get feed when hubby is on a business trip.

You are welcome to come test mine out. I'll give you a list of things to test it on.
