Good Morning Happy Chicken people!! WELCOME to all the new people!!

1) I have a cat obsessed with chicken eggs...not only does she LOVE to play with them...she likes to chew on them.

Who knew?!? LOL

2) Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers. It seems the doctors are still concerned with my baby girl and they still want her to see the specialist next month! Not sure what we're in for, but I'm a wreck. Not to mention said doctor told us they would no longer see us as patients because we do not vaccinate and they have become a vaccinate only clinic!

They know DD1's allergies and the side-effects vaccines have on her PLUS they have the CDC recommendation that tells us NOT to vaccinate her on top of the fact that the CDC says if we vaccinate any of our children, we'd have to keep her separate from the vaccinated ones for 2 weeks PER vaccine as a "safety measure". <sigh> Is it too late to want to be a chicken in someone's chicken oasis?? LOL

Got to hear my rooster (not sure which one) crowing this morning!! I sure wish I could hear that more often...makes me feel like I actually live in the country!! Hehe. Chickens have been locked up for a week now....and..... NOT.ONE.EGG!! I am going to keep them locked up for this week as well, but after that, they NEED to go back free ranging....they are eating me out of house and home!! Maybe this week we'll end up putting a light in the coop and see if that helps?!?

Have a great day everyone!

NH... I really do think the light may be your best bet . I have been turning the barn lights on about 5am everyday. My egg production is great ..except a few known slackers.

Crazy things happening....I've only been getting between 1 and 3 eggs a day and then it went down to 1. I go out this morning with everyones morning treats and Annie Oakley(my SFH) is no where to be seen. If I think hard I'm not sure I saw her last night either. I go ask the GF and she tells me she's seen her going under the tool shed. I go snooping around and see a tail barely poking out
roll.png
I pull on it and it doesn't respond......I lean down and and go to pick her up........and get the broody "growl"
gig.gif
I left her there and will move her to the broody house and kick red and her two teens out when I get home. It's crazy that the 2 birds I could never keep in the pen (jumping out or getting out somehow) are the 2 that have gone broody. But I'm excited to see what'll hatch, the eggs are Dark Brahma roo over the SFH hen!

Jealous....nobody ever goes broody around here.

So I heard a lot of loud peeping last night and I thought it was the one little BLRW hollering because I moved the 4 BCMs over to another cage and maybe she misses them. I kept going in there to check on her when I finally realized the loud peeping was coming from the incubator! LOL! I had one little baby mille fleur d'uccle hatch last night
wee.gif

Stupid me marked the set date wrong on the calendar and put yesterday as their lock down day when actually today is their hatch date! When I moved them last night from the turner, I saw that one had pipped and thats what made me do the double take and re-check the calendar. I candled them and saw movement but figured they probably wouldn't hatch since they were not put in lock-down properly. I will check them again this afternoon. The lone hatchling was peeping like crazy this morning so I sure hope another one hatches to keep it company!!

Has anyone else made a mistake on lock-down like this?? What were the results??

Thanks!
Angela (worrying that I've really screwed up)

Toss them in the hatcher. They should be fine. You are not the first or last to forget a date. I'll come home and find 2-3 hatching and scramble to toss the rest of them in the hatcher. LOL

They should be fine. Let us know what happens.

So, this past weekend I traded with a guy in Burlington - I wanted a hen that lays dark brown eggs, so I traded a Barred Rock hen for a Splash Maran. When I got home, I realized she was sick. I am treating her, and keeping her quarantined. She is getting no worse, but doesn't seem to be getting better either (some kind of respiratory problem. She is eating and drinking and is fairly alert, so I'm going to try to nurse her to health.

However, if she doesn't make it, I'm wondering if any of y'all have a dark-egg laying hen that you might want to do a trade for? I'd be happy to trade some Swedish Flower Hen hatching eggs for a hen.

Depending on what she has, if she recovers she could be a carrier. MG is one like that. I'd be careful, but I am paranoid these days.
