i read the ag rev all the time i am tempted to buy drom some but dont knw their quality
The quality will vary by person selling, just like anywhere else. Go see what you find interesting. Buy or not based on what you see. I've seen good, well cared for and healthy animals, and some on their last legs. Same thing buying from people on a forum I used to be on. Some good folk, some not so good. Gotta go see for yourself.

why not go goats nigerian for some milk 1-2 quarts a day of milk if you get a good breed with great milking line. I should have two does may or june

Yep

NH, do you read the NC Agricultural Review? There are often bred Jerseys in there. Sure you want that much milk? You're looking at several gallons per day. That's a lot of milk, butter and cheese. A lot. Plus, cattle are herd animals and need a companion. Chickens won't cut it!
Also keep in mind the time needed to milk by hand is alot more then when using a machine. Cows eat ALOT, POOP ALOT, and will lean hard on anything to scratch.
Never tie a brick to her tail to stop the swishing.
Good Luck
Scott (who has alot of bad cow memories)

I agree with Hollow about the good, bad, and ugly. That goes for chickens or goats, anything really. I think I got all three at the WCA last year, so I am even more choosy than ever. I went last week and had to hide my number from on of my boys, he wanted the Peafowl in a real bad way, and it was going to high for my spending budget. I don't know how, but I must be learning to more self control. I was warned that this might happen as I got older. I left TSC without any too... The boys wanted ducks there!!! While they are fun, and cute, they are a mess too. I still have one that bunks with the hens at night.

Well much like last year I hatched in the house while something killed in the yard; on a much smaller scale this time. 9 lost, and 11 hatched!

Anyone looking for chicks, I now have 3 Silkies hatched, and 8 EEs!

Love those little cotton butts!

What?? You mean I can't count Levi as a companion?? LOL I do know they are herd animals...we're thinking about a goat or a sheep, even a steer as a companion...not sure yet. As for the milk...I know I wouldn't use it all, but I also plan to let the gal take care of her calf and just milk the extra (which would probably give us more than what we could use)...also I do know of a family that is really struggling financially (and they buy raw milk a lot) so I would love to "share" the extra!! I am not ALLOWED to read the Ag Reviews...Dh is fearful that I would end up buying an entire farm and we'd run out of places to put them!! LOL
