I need a good flea treatment for my pets. Anyone know of one? That really woks.

Have you tried the pill that does fleas, ticks, heart worm? I have seen several ticks this year, and none of them have burrowed in their skin {knock on wood}. I forget what it is called - it is so much easier than the grease on the neck in my opinion. Then again, I have two miniature dachshunds.

Does anyone garden? {Yes, I know this is a forum about chickens -- But I think y'all are smart}

I have a major issue with slugs. I hate them. HATE THEM. Like skin crawling, screeching in fear, HATE THEM. I was picking some lettuce yesterday, and found one while I was outside in the garden. I carried the lettuce to the house to wash it and as it was soaking, there was ANOTHER mother blessin' slug IN MY SINK! I could handle a spider...but a slug? NO WAY!

I got online to read about it and it said to spread coffee grounds and crushed egg shells -- but I am not sure if there is enough coffee in this world... I don't want to attract them in, I want to kill them off.

HELP!!!

I am so sorry about your tick bite! That lymes is NO fun at all. We have pulled a few ticks off of us - mostly my husband when he is out clearing fence or weed eating fenceline. We are down to only 14 guineas now so it is hard for them to cover 50 acres but I've got about 55 eggs in the incubator now so hopefully, they will hatch out and get to work this Summer. Had 8 hatch Fri/Sat but one didn't make it :( We had thought about going over to Isley's for that Ranch Horse event but I was just dying to go to Chickenstock and had some roosters to sell....

We use the K-9 Advantix II on our dogs for ticks but I'm not sure how well it does on fleas....we don't really have trouble with fleas so not sure. It does really well for ticks but we have to apply it every 3 weeks and also use the Prevetic Tick collar to try to keep them at bay. We have an LGD and he goes all over the property and in the woods, tall grass, etc so he is just a walking target for ticks. Our aussie goes with him everywhere so she gets ticks too. Our inside dogs rarely ever get a tick - can't remember the last time. So we know they aren't around the house/yard area. The chickens and guineas would definitely get them if there were there! The Advantix II says it does fleas but hopefully, someone else can give you an idea of how well it works on fleas....? Good luck - those can be terribly hard to get rid of once you have them :(

The Evil-Me can't wait to hear how your neices/nephews deal with "real life" at your house. I know how busy you are going to be, but I hope we get a report, just for entertainment-sake.

I agree. I hope we get to share in the fun!

I will see what I can do. Perhaps I will be able to video tape the complaining so you all can get a FIRST HAND experience!! LOL
Good Morning, Happy Chicken People! I love the rain! Even though we have four dogs to dry off every time they come in, I still love the rain. I miss living in the rainforest. Enjoy the day!
Just for you Hollow, the stuff my NIGHTMARES are made up of...here is the photo DH took of the mama spider and her youngsters...I have such a HARD time looking at it as it gives me the heebie-jeebies: DH is on night shift this week, so it ought to be an interesting week trying to keep the girls quiet enough for him to sleep and yet still get all the stuff done that needs to be done (laundry, dishes, chores, etc...) I hope the rain lessens, as I'd REALLY like my garden to thrive and NOT become a flood zone!! Glad everyone had fun at WCA - I was there in thought at least!! Have a wonderful day!! Grab a towel and go play in some mud puddles!! :D
Hey! May I use your photograph in class? Marvelous! I'd love to put that in my section on Arachnids!

Feed them to your chickens :)
You can pour salt on them to kill them, but it seems like a waste if it could be a chicken treat.....

Anyone ever use a steel shed for a chicken coop?
I wanted to add another coop and was on lowe's website picking out my lumber to buy online and pick up in store and they have a 10x8 steel shed for $300 which is less than my lumber.
I was going to attach it to my 15x20 foot run like my other coop is, leave the doors open all the time and put a vent on the back side for cross ventilation. It's under a tree so it will be partially shaded. With the doors open 24/7 and the vent you think it will still be okay to use in the summer?
I was going to put 2 10 foot roosts one down each side and build a loft to store my hay, feed & pine bedding.

Though my husband is gone for a month, so not sure how sucessful I will be alone. But we aren't permitted ANY contact on this mission, so I'm looking for a project to fill my time (as if my kids & house & garden isn't enough......)

Thoughts???

NO BABY STILL!!!!!

We went to the swap at TSC on Saturday but only sold 4 pullets. I do believe there were more people selling than buying. So I think I've decided to keep everyone and grow the ugly ones out for freezer camp. Annie mysteriously is sitting on a bunch of eggs and I'm unsure of when the are due to hatch.

I had used a tin shed but it's NC and it gets extremely hot in those things. If you put a window in it it would probably work.
I built a new coop and cleaned out a storage room in the house for myself a man-cave!!!! I leave for a few hours and come home to "my man-cave" filled with the animal stuff?!?! ohh well, Happy monday everyone!

Fingers crossed baby comes soon!!! How exciting!

I was afraid of it getting too hot.
I give my chickens access to their run 24/7 and the yard from the time they wake up until they go to bed.
For some reason my older chickens don't want to share the coop with the younger ones, and they stayed out all night in the rain, so I want to give them another option to be covered.

Just for the record, my first was 23 days late and still had to be induced. And took 36 hours after induction to show up! The docs were sure they'd miscalculated, but hubby was only home four days, so I knew when that baby started! Point being, babies come when they're ready. Your son will be along soon, no worries!

And where else to store the man's animal's stuff but in the man's room? Sounds exactly right to me! Around here all the animals belong to the woman, so the stuff is in my space!
