My coop is boring white! with a silver metal roof, matches the real house actually.
We look at the coop as a place we don't have to conform. Get crazy! In fact, when we got the paint at Home Depot, the paint lady was so inspired she went home and painted her rabbit hutches - and loved it. She said she always loved going out in the yard to enjoy the bunnies but the colorful hutches added even more cheer.

Good morning folks

It is funny the conceptions that some people
have about chickens
my BIL had posted a pic of some silkies and said
they looked like aliens.....his DD2 thought they were
cute aliens and I posted my DD@ has some and they
are cute little chickens...... at this point I will tell you
his DD2 is an adult in her 20s.......anyway she got all
excited about the thought of them having chickens when
I offered hatching eggs and asked " Do they lay eggs?"
I smiled to myself and told her yes they do. She admitted
that was a silly question and then asked if you can eat the
eggs........she's on a roll here and I'm all but laughing hard
I suggested they get a bator and build a coop and I'd send
eggs and she said "yay......I see a BBQ and coop building
party happening" I told them that by this time next year
they could be BBQing their own chickens and she said
oh no.......chickens aren't for eating.....she is not a vegetarian
......so I said that we eat the extra roos and she asked if they
taste like regular chickens???? that's when I lost it

I think I would have lost it sooner, so kuddos for hanging in there!! LOL

No chicken or baby news to speak of here. Today is a CRAZY busy day for me. I have a graduation sheet cake to make and decorate by Saturday morning (AHHHHHH), bread to make and a bunch of other things to make (need to stock that freezer for when the baby arrives, right?) while keeping my 2 little ones out of the kitchen (at least until the cake is done)...Anyone want to come over and play with my kids?? LOL. Have a great day everyone!!

In the 5 years we've been down here I have NEVER seen one, I was thinking ya'll didn't have them down here since they're EVERYWHERE back home!
Guess they just don't come over in the city.
I miss them!!!
one main reason folks don't see them in the city
is the use of LOTS of pesticides........

shame folks
don't learn to live with nature more often

Hey I have an incubation question.
I was going to get an automatic egg turner, do I turn it off at day 18 since that's when you're supposed to stop turning?
The first time (and only time) I hatched eggs I turned them myself.
But they all hatched day 18 and 19 anyway.
I read online it's probably because the temp was too high. I tried to calibrate the thermometer and used 2, guess I need a new one.
All the ones that hatched were really healthy, just came a few days early...
