My dh is teasing me about chickens. A chicken story here in Fayetteville made it on the front page.

I commented on the article. He laughed. Not real please with the man right now, but I will get even.

My California girl has something wrong with her ear. And after hours of searching I can't find anything on how to treat her? Any help please?

Looks like ear mites gone wild. There are medicines you can get, but you can also use plain old mineral oil or baby oil. Put the oil in the ear and massage the base of the ear. Do it a couple days running, then weekly for a month. It suffocates the mites. You do it several days running because they will burrow into the crud to get away from the oil. The oil will soften the crud though and soon they will have no place to hide. The weekly treatments are to get ones that hatch out.

SOMEBODY LAID AN EGG TODAY!!!!! :) I just went out to the coop and there it was!!!!!!!! A beautiful perfect light beige egg! :) yey!!!!! Sorry but I'm so excited!

So excited for you..., got my my first 2 eggs this week.....WE ARE SUCH PROUD PARENTS....aren't we?

I am a new proud parent too! Lol, I have gotten 5 eggs total, the girls started on Monday. The three brown eggs were perfect and edible...i had scrambled eggs this morning! I heard the "egg song" on Thursday morning. I came home from running errands, incredibly loud ruckus coming from the coop...I thought something was hurting one of my girls! But, was just Olive Oyl in the nest box, carrying on. She has always been the most vocal of the girls from the beginning.

With rabbits kept outdoors, keep an eye on the ears, because it will be a recurring issue. Here's a site with a well written article on mites. Her treatment regime is tougher than mine, but it still does the full month. And I hadn't thought of plain old veggie oil! http://riseandshinerabbitry.com/2012/10/30/ear-mites-causes-and-remedys/

So just now I found my 19 week old BR sitting on the plastic egg I placed in the nesting box. It looked like she was trying to make a nest. Is this normal? She has yet to lay. All the other girls seemed to be very curious by her actions, however my LB forced her off the egg.
