Well...good news with the bad.

We finally found out what is attacking our birds - a young Great Pyrenees Dog (?? it looked like one to me) - a stray I'm assuming since it has no color, is a mess and none of the neighbors have dogs...
I am feeling VERY guilty as I saw dog vs rooster and went in to get the gun to scare the dog off...by the time I got the gun and had talked myself into shooting IF necessary ( I don't like dogs, but I can't shoot one either) my beloved Tyrone was gone - just a pile of feathers...and the dog was gone too. We lost 3 birds yesterday - so until the dog is trapped (or killed) our coop/home is under lock-down!! DH told me to let the ducks wander because they can fly - but NO WAY!! I am NOT giving that mutt any other chance to take off with one of my birds!!
Any ideas on how to trap the dog? I am sure it would make a nice pet for someone in the city...someone NOT near livestock/backyard chickens!! Of course this would happen AFTER I place my order for Freedom Rangers.

Angela, the video is great! Love your place! And I find it hilarious that in the written part underneath, they say YOU started BYC! Reporters never get anything right!

Usually that breed of dog makes a good LSG...it must be starving to attack your birds. I'm sorry it killed Tyrone. If I lived close by I'd help you catch it...I would love to have one even if my DH wouldn't.

Cute kitty! If you put food out for it and it eats it will stay with you...that's how we got our last cat. They make good mousers.

NH- I'm sorry for your loss. I've lost chickens to dogs before. I agree you have to call animal control and just pray for the best that he is able to be adopted. I don't really care for dogs either, but also agree I would never be able to kill one.

Skitzkle-- Cute cat! I've heard of people having feral cats attack their chickens, but this one appears to be sweet. My cat is great, he watches over all my other animals outside. And I don't know how he can tell the difference between what he's allowed to kill and what he's not, but he does. He has access to my chicks, guinea pigs, chinchillas, bunnies and he won't touch any of them. But he will catch wild birds, lizards, bunnies, mice, whatever. Not that I LIKE him killing anything, but at least it isn't my pets... Does the cat let you pet it yet? I just love cats.

Yeah, I do not know how on earth that happened because when we talked, he knew who started the BYC list and had even spoken with the guy! I guess someone else wrote that snippet! LOL. Oh, if only I had that much spare time!!!

It would be wonderful to have a how quality silkie but the majority or silkies we recieved from murray mcmurray were males:/ and we are also thinking of selling all of our silkies and getting new hampshire reds , jersey giants , or maybe barred rocks. Seeing as silkies dont mature very fast. But my name is cody cunningham , ive lived in monroe my whole life, 19 years aint that long though haha. The hatchery isnt a huge business because we just started, we like to do everything by hand so we know the chicks and chickens are taken good care of, chicks are vacinated an will be sexed and placed into separate brooders for easy selection. And no we arnt like the major companies that sex the chick then drop it down a shoot into a basket, most likely i will be saying im sorry to every single one i vaccinate lol. We are also starting a website which is not yet viewable by public but i hope it will be up by next month because we will be up to our necks in chicks. Haha
