Good morning everyone :frow
Good to see you Greens :) glad things are settling down for you.
Mary Gorgeous pictures as always. Love the new pup. Wish I was close enough to buy one of them little piggies to cute :love

I am sitting in town killing time and waiting on my shipment from Meyer to get here.

I was wondering if there is anyone within 2 hours of the coast, specifically Havelock (Cherry Point), that would be interested in hatching some eggs for me. I am trying to get some Black Copper Maran hens. I don't want to buy them from a hatchery for many reasons.
I would like to buy them from a reputable seller on EBay and have them shipped directly to someone with an incubator. I would buy 12 to 18 eggs of the darkest brown I could find and would only want 4 pullets and the rest would be the 'hatchers' to keep. Is that fair?
I could meet to pick them up or come to your place to pick them up. Ideally I would pick them up when it was clear whether they were pullets or cockerels, but would take the risk and pick them up within days of hatching if necessary. Is anyone interested or know anyone who is? It would not have to be right away, I am not in a rush. Sometime in the next year. Still have to propose the idea to DH!

Also I have heard that if you incubate them at a certain temperature that you are more likely to get pullets than cockerels. Has anyone tried this?

I am within your 2 hours limit and I do hatch for others BUT..........................
Just MY opinion here: if you are going to ask someone to raise your chicks until they are sexable, you may consider just buying pullet in the Spring.

I charge $1 per live chick to hatch. They need to picked up ASAP...like within the 1st day or 2. If you want someone to raise them to pick out pullets..you should expect to pay for that...I have no idea what someone would charge. Then you have the roosters to think about, what would yo do with them?

How many pullets are you looking for? I honestly think it would be cheaper to buy pullets when you are ready.
This is just my opinion here..

FYI: If you are looking for nice BCM pullets in Spring, let me know. I can get some for you.

I think I got Barred rocks, RIRs and White leghorns., What do Ya'll think?
Glad I got some good layers, bummed because it was supposed to be an assortment of At Least 5 breeds.

I know this little girl is a buff laced polish :celebrate

The polish might be buff or white. I see two different types of red chicks so you might have rir and product reds or red sex links. What color of legs do all of your black chicks have and what type of comb as you might have doms, barred rocks, and or cuckoo marans. The whites could be leghorns or white rocks.

All the black ones have yellow legs and single combs. I forgot to put Sexlink in my list up there, yes I have little solid reds and red ones with chipmunk marks. Meyer only carries buff laced, blue, black, silver laced and gold laced. So I'm hoping its buff laced.

Barred Rocks are my favorite chicken breed, they are crazy good with kids.
The ones we had before used to come knock on the slider with their beaks and my toddler would let them in the house to come play.
One would sit in her baby doll stroller and let her push it around.

The polish is super cute :)
How many chicks did you end up getting?

Skitzkle--

I have a bunch of blue marans in my incubator right now, so about 25% should hatch out as black.
Obviously don't know how many I will get or how many girls, but I am only looking to keep 1 blue female and sell the rest.
I'm in Fayetteville, not sure how far that is from you.
