Not all silkie chicks have a top knot as a chick. Not all silkies will have shredded wing flights either.

I bet you could come up with some fabulous looking chickens breeding silkies with some different breeds.... oh to have a rooster!

Dark/navy skin and bright blue ears. Males will have a walnut comb. The guy I got mine from had a roo with a single comb- obviously a mix. Sure hope he removed him from his breeding stock!

Good breeder quality silkies have a walnut comb (both the hens and roosters) black skin (gypsy face on males) and brown eyes (darker the better). They also have feathers on the outside of their legs and outside toe. And 5 toes with good spacing (some that are not breeder quality will have more or less toes, or poor spacing of the 4th and 5th toes) and bright blue earlobes.

Morning everyone!! Beautiful day today , i was wondering if my fellow North Carolina BYCers could help me out. So far we only have two mature breeds at KBHatchery , Pearl White Leghorns and Rhode Island Reds. The Barred Rocks are only one week old as of last friday and im in need of one more breed to fill the empty coop and run. If yall would kindly give me some suggestions on what that final breed could be please pm or quote this post Im looking for what breed is in High demand or just all around most popular amongst poultry lovers in NC. But no bantams please. Your input would be greatly appreciated

2 Stray Roos what kind of chicks are they???
A couple look like polish top hats, but I've never seen coloring like that on them?
They are cute

Here are the parents



All the babies have feathered feet, looks like five toes what I can tell. The black chicken (Ember) I think has cochin in her. Black skin, 5 toes but feathered different from a silkie. Her feathers look emerald green, so pretty. Gonna take pictures of the little black chick in a few minutes.
