North Carolina

Hi from Wake County. New to chickens & the site. Currently have 3 Mille Fleur d'Uccle's that hatched Sept 4th. Never thought I'd have chickens but they're amazing!

Welcome! They are pretty amazing aren't they? My DH was totally unimpressed with the idea - but now that they've been around for a couple weeks I catch him watching them and snickering to himself at their antics. Don't tell him he's been seen. :)

Good morning everyone!! How's your weekend going? Ours is off to a great start. The boys decided we need to go camping so we set up a tent in the back yard. Turns out we have a squirrel that likes to cuss us out every morning from about 6-6:30am. Combine that with the neighbors cows and donkeys conversing back and forth until 2am and it makes for a great nights sleep. Boys are having a blast though. :)

I'm off to hide in the chicken coop with my girls and sip my coffee and get some reading done in some peace and quiet.

There's something very soothing about hanging out with them there. AND I get to convince my DH by explaining that the chickens need to be "tamed" by my being around them or they won't let me get near them when I need to. Luckily for me these six were just hatched friendly. Well... maybe not the EE's but we're getting there. Have fun with the boys hubby!!

But anyway we get two Welsummer hens, three silver laced wyndotte hens, a buff Cochin bantam pair, and a bantam pair that I can't remember the name of it! I'll need help figuring it out once I post pictures! Their all so beautiful.

RF...fluffy birds with headgear! Ilove the pictures!

My son is visiting this weekend. He's actually staying at the house of a friend since the friend is out of town. But he stopped by this evening. He went out to admire roosters with me, since a couple breeds I got with him in mind. He was pleased with the Welsummer cockerel, and really liked the cuckoo marans, but you should have seen him when he saw Sterlng, my Silver Sussex cockerel. I had to pull Sterling off the perch so Joe could go over him. Joe was dang near drooling over my handsome boy.

Why no, he doesn't care a thing about chickens. He ties fishing flies!

DTS for NPIP, a state person comes out and testes every bird on the place and the birds get tagged. It's not just a forum to fill out, that's your green card or poultry dealer card.
