North Carolina

Hi, I was looking through the NC thread to try and find people close to me here in Forsyth County and.... found you. We live in the Vienna area of Pfafftown, just 50 feet from the Lewisville line. How about you?

Hi neighbor we live off Old Yadkinville Rd. How did things go at the fair? We wanted to enter a few of our cockerals but missed the deadline for entry. Hopefully next year though!

Update on the "new flock" we sold all of our bantams and purchased 29 day old easter babies. All but 1 turned out to be cockerels! we have culled out all but 4 of those in hopes of getting the best looking one to continue our flock. We also purchased 25 pullets about 6 weeks ago. I have received some much appreciated help here from a member but would appreciate more opinions as well. So which should be the lucky bird?

Any and all opinions are welcome.

Out of 29 chicks, you got 28 males and only 1 female??? What are the chances?

If you are trying to breed to standard, you should get a Standard of Perfection book. It will tell you everything from how many comb points to the ideal weight for the breed. But without better pictures, all I can say is that Blondie is too light in color for a proper buff orpington. But in birds "you build the barn before you paint it" meaning you need to work on the body type before you worry about color. How old are they?

if you're getting that many males your incubator temp could be too high.
female eggs will door before males in high temps.
I've also read theories that the temperature you incubate can determine sex like in some reptile eggs but hasn't been proven.
