Well, its that time of year again. The neighbors chickens are starting to come over for feed

. I hate when his chickens decide to winter over at my house! Right now its just a black sex-link rooster, but he'll bring the rest at some point and time. Catching them and telling him as I give the bird to him does nothing but make them disappear for maybe a week, if I'm lucky

I live in no restriction area. So I can't even let my chickens free roam. Because everybody's dogs are walking where they want, that is a big problem . So enjoy your neighbor chickens , maybe they will like your place better and reward you with eggs . :)

WOW - that's a lot of posts for NC!!!

I'm in Harnett Cty, between Lillington and Sanford. Currently have 16 "barn yard chickens" - bantams, production reds and easter eggers.

I shop all over - including when I go other places out of state (family and pony stuff).

Does anyone in a 50 mile radius of Sanford or Lillington know of a source for pallets (preferably free, but would be willing to purchase)?

Freezer camp? I kid... kinda... I hate that we have to fence in our property to keep the neighbors animals under control.

Hi PaintedChix - I am south of Sanford, near the Harnett/Lee county line. There was a guy selling pallets about an hour west of here. He listed them on Craigslist. I bought a bunch when I made my pallet coop. You could stop in a places that might have them and ask.

Hello to everyone else. It was great hanging out with Hollow, CSB, RF and BHep yesterday at the poultry show! There were many more game birds and bantams than I expected and not a lot of LF variety. It was a good time though. I got to see breeds that I had never seen in person before. Like Hollow, my favorites were the Salmon Favorelles. I have thought of getting some in the past, now that I know how pretty they are, I am want them even more.

I hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday. I am off to do more chores.

Whelp... the possum is gone! Not that there won't be another one coming alone. Hubby's in a bit of trouble with me for that one.

To all the newbies--

One would think that would work once the rooster brings the hens with him. But come spring when the hens would start to lay again, said neighbor always seems to come visiting and "reclaims" the birds, and takes them home and locks them up for sometime. Than come mid to late summer, I'll see them running lose in his yard after bugs and all. I wouldn't mind the birds, but I have some youngsters running lose in the yard and I feed them in the yard. This rooster chases my birds off and wont let them eat. I aint paying to feed someone else's birds while mine go hungry because of it.

Good to see you! Hope the new job is only killer during the break-in period and that things get better! I am always grateful that I love my job, even if it is a lot of work.

Loved seeing everyone at the show! I've missed hanging out with you guys. I had a good time, and even hubby enjoyed himself, although at one point he said all the chickens looked alike. Silly man! But he was pleased with the couple things we won from the raffle table. We stopped at the big antique store in Dunn on the way home, and then hit Cracker Barrel for a late lunch/early supper.

Of everything at the show, I liked the Salmon Faverolles looks the best. I'll have to look into the breed a bit. Tammyfarms said that from her reading, they might be picked on by other more dominant breeds, as they are pretty laid back. But the trio that were there were lovely. The owner said she got them at an auction, so she didn't breed them herself.

If you were there and I didn't know you to say hello, I'm sorry I missed you! Maybe next time we should designate a meet-up spot and time so those of us who don't know each other can find each other. I know Beth, CSB, RF, and Tammyfarms, so met up with all of them there.

:)
I saw you there I think. Were you wearing a shirt with a picture of your mastiff on it? I was working at the raffle table when you bought your tickets. I wasnted to say Hi, but I was afraid it wasn't you.

Those were nice favs weren't they. I have the owners number, I get my brahmas from that family. She has really nice std brahmas but she's liquidating her brahma flock and I think they're concentrating on the Shamos, favs and moderns. But they live in lumberton which is not too far to drive for that kind of quality favs.
